- Trade promotion is one of the important activities that the Provincial People's Committee pays attention to and directs to implement annually to promote and build brands for the province's products, at the same time connecting supply and demand, expanding the consumer market, and giving wings to product brands to reach out to other provinces and cities in the country and internationally.

In recent years, on average, each year, departments, branches, districts and cities organize and participate in 20 to 30 trade promotion programs (XTTM) from district, provincial to national and international levels. The programs are organized in a variety of ways such as seminars, conferences, exhibitions, specialty festivals... Each program contributes significantly to building the brand of local products, including some brands that are very familiar to domestic consumers such as: Lang Son roast duck, Chi Lang custard apple, Trang Dinh black jelly, Loc Binh sweet potato...

Connecting supply and demand

One of the highlights of trade promotion activities in recent times is the establishment of delegations to participate in major trade promotion programs held domestically and internationally. In each program, the provincial delegation arranges booths to display and introduce many specialty products, typical rural industrial products, and OCOP products of the province. According to a survey by the Center for Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion, Lang Son's booths at trade promotion programs always attract consumers' attention, visits, and shopping. Take-away products are always "sold out", not meeting the needs of consumers...

Most recently, from April 19 to April 25, the Provincial Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Center organized a delegation to attend the 2024 Northwest - Dien Bien Industry and Trade Fair in Dien Bien Phu City, Dien Bien Province. At the fair, the delegation arranged 2 booths to display, promote, and introduce the achievements, potentials, advantages in investment, trade, tourism and typical products of the province. During 1 week, the province's booth attracted an average of more than 1,000 visitors per day to visit and shop, some products such as star anise essential oil and black jelly were "sold out" on the 4th day of display at the fair.

On July 24, 2024, the Provincial Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Center and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, Guangxi Branch signed a memorandum of understanding on enhancing economic and trade cooperation. Accordingly, the two sides agreed to jointly promote and implement the contents of cooperation on trade promotion, investment and tourism that the leaders of the two countries and provinces/regions have reached common understanding on, support businesses of both sides to enhance economic and trade cooperation, expand markets; promote investment cooperation, expand and regularly exchange information on feasible trade, investment and tourism cooperation to bring about mutual benefits; Establish a support mechanism, connect and facilitate organizations and businesses of each side to learn about the investment environment, actively participate in trade promotion programs, investment and tourism promotion coordinated or supported by each side... With some contents related to trade promotion, the minutes are an important premise to connect supply - demand and promote the province's products to the large market of Guangxi, China; contributing significantly to promoting trade of goods and economic development between the two provinces/regions.


Every year, relevant levels and sectors also organize and participate in many trade connection conferences inside and outside the province to create conditions for businesses to promote products and expand markets. Some notable programs include: in 2022, the Provincial People's Committee directed specialized agencies and units to coordinate with the Agricultural Trade Promotion Center, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to organize a forum to connect the consumption of custard apples and agricultural specialties of Lang Son province with over 50 online bridges in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Lang Son province; in 2023, the Department of Industry and Trade coordinated with the Trade and Investment Promotion Center of An Giang province to organize a trade connection conference between Tu Son supermarket, Chau Doc city, An Giang province with businesses and cooperatives in the province; In August 2024, the provincial delegation attended a conference connecting enterprises producing, importing, exporting and distributing industrial, handicraft and agricultural products of Thanh Hoa province with provinces and cities in the Northern region in 2024...

Mr. Tran Anh Thuan, Head of the Trade Promotion and Industrial Promotion Department, the Provincial Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Center, said: One of the goals when organizing or participating in the trade promotion program that the center sets is to connect supply and demand for the province's products. Therefore, the center always researches and selects businesses, cooperatives, and production facilities with suitable products and potential to access the market where the trade promotion event takes place to create conditions for participating units.

According to statistics from the Center for Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion, from 2018 to present, through trade promotion programs inside and outside the province, more than 60 cooperation contracts for product consumption have been signed.

Typical examples include: the contract signed to consume OCOP products between Vinh Kim Cooperative (Chau Thanh district, Tien Giang province) and Ha Chau Lang Son Company Limited (Lang Son city); cooperation in consuming black jelly products between Duc Quy Production and Import-Export Investment Company Limited (Trang Dinh district) and Minh Duong Vietnam Biochemical Company Limited (belonging to Minh Duong Biochemical Group - Nong Can Guangxi, China)...

Take your brand far and wide

Trade promotion programs not only connect supply and demand but also contribute significantly to creating and bringing many product brands of the province to provinces and cities across the country as well as internationally. Specifically, some products of the province have built regional and national brands such as: Chi Lang custard apple was honored by the Vietnam General Association of Agriculture and Rural Development, awarded the gold cup and certificate of Top 10 Golden Brands of Vietnam Agriculture in 2018, 2019; Thai Binh O Long tea was honored by the Vietnam General Association of Agriculture and Rural Development with the Golden Brand of Vietnam Agriculture in 2021; Trang Dinh black jelly, Mau Son wine entered the Top 100 Vietnamese gift specialties in 2022 announced by the Vietnam Record Organization...

Mr. Nguyen Quang Huy, Head of Sales Department, Duc Quy Production and Import-Export Investment Company Limited (Kim Dong Commune, Trang Dinh District) said: Through the trade promotion programs, we have had the opportunity to promote and introduce product brands and expand the consumption market. Accordingly, currently, the company's black jelly powder products are not only consumed domestically but also exported to China, India and are preparing to export to the Australian market. On average, each year, the company sells about 2,000 tons of black jelly powder to the market (of which up to 70% is exported to foreign markets).

Mr. Hoang Xuan Thuan, Director of the Provincial Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Center, emphasized: Trade promotion programs are an important solution to support businesses in promoting, developing products, and boosting consumption. In the coming time, the center will continue to research, study, and classify the domestic market, as well as the export market to select businesses and cooperatives with suitable products to participate in trade promotion programs to improve the effectiveness of promoting the province's products. At the same time, the center carries out direct trade promotion activities such as introducing the province's products to industrial parks and clusters, and retail distributors across the country; opening product introduction points inside and outside the province; at the same time, increasing the application of digital technology in implementing trade promotion programs to expand customer access channels, meeting the current trend of digital economic development.

It can be seen that the effective implementation of trade promotion programs in recent years has truly become a launching pad, giving wings to many products of the province to reach out to large markets. The clearest evidence is that currently many products of the province are not only exported to domestic provinces and cities but also to the world market, especially typical agricultural and forestry products such as: star anise and products processed from star anise; essential oil; black jelly... bringing the value of local goods export turnover as well as the total retail sales of goods of the province to increase day by day. Through 7 months of 2024, the total export turnover of local goods of the province reached 89 million USD, an increase of 23.6% over the same period in 2023; total retail sales of goods reached 20,827.2 billion VND, an increase of 13.08% over the same period, contributing to promoting the socio-economic development of the province in a fast and sustainable direction.
