Currently, the agricultural sector and localities are proactively planting rice and crop seeds to ensure the overall success of the 2024-2025 winter-spring crop.

Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) of Quang Trach district, Tran Van Dinh, said that this winter-spring crop, the district plans to plant 3,394 hectares of rice, 2,200 hectares of various flowers and vegetables. The locality has arranged a planting schedule for crops. Of which, rice will be sown from January 1 to January 25, 2025; corn from October 25, 2024 to January 20, 2015; peanuts, beans, and chili from December 10, 2024 to January 30, 2025... The structure of the main rice varieties includes: Ha Phat 3, HN6, VNR20, QC03, PC6; Promising varieties include: HG12, Tan Uu 98, Du Huong 8, Thien Uu 8, ADI28, HD9, Hung Long 555, TBR97, QS88, Bac Thinh, SV18...

Based on the forecast that the winter-spring weather will have complicated developments, with the possibility of severe cold and frost that will affect crops, the district has directed localities to mobilize farmers to dredge canals, internal traffic, and organize rat extermination; balance the irrigation capacity of each irrigation project to have a plan to use water resources reasonably and economically.

Localities should arrange to plant 2-3 main rice varieties in the fields, suitable for local production conditions. Prioritize the use of varieties with high purity, stable yield, and resistance to pests and diseases; increase the production area of ​​quality rice varieties, varieties with medium and short growing periods, and reduce long-term varieties. Based on the district's crop calendar, communes should adjust the crop calendar to suit local conditions, for rice, the flowering period should be from April 10-15, 2025.

In Quang Ninh district, according to the plan, in this winter-spring crop, the whole district will plant about 5,200 hectares of rice and nearly 1,400 hectares of various crops and vegetables. Deputy Head of the district's Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Tran Van Trung said that based on the crop calendar of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the specific conditions of the locality, the district has arranged the winter-spring rice planting schedule starting from December 15, 2024 to January 25, 2025 to avoid the early cold and allow the rice to form ears and bloom in safe conditions, as well as to deploy the summer-autumn crop in time. The structure of the main rice varieties includes the following varieties: VNR20, VN20, Ha Phat 3, TBR1, P6, QS88, etc.

In order to achieve high results in the 2024-2025 winter-spring crop, the district's Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has directed and guided communes and towns to proactively arrange the seed structure and develop a specific and flexible crop calendar suitable to the conditions of each region and each type of crop. For rice, the flowering period is arranged to be concentrated within the safe period from April 5-15, 2025 (March 8-18 of the lunar calendar). At the same time, it has directed localities to strictly comply with the State's regulations on plant varieties; not to put into production plant varieties that have not been tested in the area...

Director of Irrigation Works Exploitation Company Limited Tran Hong Quang said: To ensure water sources for the 2024-2025 winter-spring crop production, the unit has also organized inspections and assessments of works after the flood season to develop plans, organize maintenance, repair of irrigation works; inspect and repair damaged and leaking reservoir gate systems that cause water loss, affecting irrigation work in the winter-spring crop.

Ho Khac Minh, Head of the Provincial Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, said: Crop production in 2024 in the province will have a good harvest and good prices. In particular, rice productivity and output will be high, contributing to ensuring food security, while encouraging people to expand production, reduce abandoned areas in the summer-autumn crop, and increase people's income. The production orientation in 2025 is to focus on commodity production, quality, and efficiency; organize the production of advantageous crops on a large scale, apply scientific and technological advances and advanced technologies, link with product consumption according to the value chain, build agricultural product brands, and develop sustainably.

In the 2024-2025 winter-spring crop, the province plans to cultivate about 29,500 hectares of rice. To ensure successful production in the face of unusual weather conditions, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development recommends that localities focus on directing farmers to produce according to the issued crop calendar; select suitable rice varieties, focusing on medium and short-term varieties that are suitable for the market and resistant to pests and weather conditions.

“Localities also need to develop plans to prevent and control pests right from the beginning of the season, paying special attention to rats, planthoppers, rice blast disease... on rice plants and cassava mosaic disease; organizing and mobilizing the entire population to do irrigation, clean fields, kill rats, golden apple snails and collect used pesticides... In addition, units and localities need to regularly inspect, detect damage, repair, dredge canals, and clear water flows to promote the irrigation capacity of works, especially in areas converting to concentrated commodity production in large fields", said Mr. Ho Khac Minh.
