In his speech, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Secretary of the Military Party Committee of Yen Bai province Tran Huy Tuan stated: The Yen Bai provincial armed forces were established on July 6, 1945, the predecessor being the Au Co guerrilla team in the Van-Hien Luong revolutionary base area.
Born from the revolutionary movement of the masses, the Yen Bai Provincial Armed Forces have continuously grown in terms of organization, quantity and quality, affirming their core role, working with the people in the uprising to seize power and protect the revolutionary government. During the resistance war against the French, the Yen Bai Provincial Armed Forces have continuously grown, developing into many companies, battalions and regiments. They have coordinated to organize nearly 200 battles, destroyed and captured more than 10,000 enemies, shot down 2 planes, contributing significantly to the overall victory of the Northwest battlefield.
The provincial armed forces actively participated in logistics services, opened hundreds of kilometers of vital traffic routes, mobilized millions of working days, transported food and ammunition to support the battlefield. More than 3,000 Yen Bai youths enlisted, contributing with the whole country to the historic Dien Bien Phu victory, "famous in five continents, shaking the earth".

During the resistance war against the US to save the country, the armed forces, together with the people in the province, both produced and fought, effectively coordinated with the main force to shoot down 115 planes, captured 8 commando groups, destroyed dozens of reactionary organizations, and arrested hundreds of spies and commandos. They sent off more than 25,000 young men to join the army, more than 3,000 laborers to serve international missions, and directly helped Laos. When the border war broke out, the armed forces of Yen Bai province directly participated in the fighting and served in the fighting with a high spirit of readiness, a strong will, and determination to protect every inch of the sacred land of the Fatherland.
Entering the period of innovation, the provincial armed forces continue to perform well two strategic tasks: building and protecting the Fatherland, always being the core force in building a national defense associated with a solid people's security posture. Actively participating in patriotic emulation movements, building new rural areas, civilized urban areas, eliminating hunger and reducing poverty, helping people develop the economy and improve their lives.
In situations of natural disasters and epidemics, especially the Covid-19 pandemic and storm Yagi, thousands of officers and soldiers of the provincial Armed Forces have not been afraid of difficulties and dangers, becoming a "steel shield" to protect the people, standing side by side with the people to overcome all difficulties and challenges.

With outstanding achievements, 38 groups and 11 individuals were awarded and posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces and Hero of Labor; 300 mothers were awarded and posthumously awarded the title of Heroic Vietnamese Mother; 371 groups and individuals were awarded the Labor Medal; 69,315 individuals were awarded the Resistance Medal, the Exploit Medal and hundreds of units were awarded the rotating flag of the Government, the Ministry of National Defense and the Military Region. In 2003, the Party Committee, people and Armed Forces of the province were awarded the noble title of Heroic Unit of the People's Armed Forces by the Party and the State.

At the ceremony, authorized by the President, the Central Military Commission, and the Ministry of National Defense, Lieutenant General Pham Duc Duyen, Party Secretary and Political Commissar of Military Region 2, pinned and awarded the First Class Fatherland Protection Medal to the Yen Bai Provincial Military Command. Provincial Party Secretary Tran Huy Tuan presented an embroidered flag on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Provincial Armed Forces' Traditional Day.
