Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection, a well-known North American-based travel insurance company, released its annual report on May 9th on the world's safest destinations, which included Sydney, Australia.
The top 10 cities on this list are: Honolulu (USA), Montreal (Canada), Reykjavik (Iceland), Sydney (Australia), Amsterdam (Netherlands), Dubai (United Arab Emirates), Copenhagen (Denmark), London (UK), Seoul (South Korea), and Venice (Italy).
The Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection report is based on a combined analysis of traveler survey questions and third-party data sources to assess weather emergencies, health measures, terrorism, and the safety of underrepresented groups.
Honolulu received the highest scores for safety among women, LGBTQ+ tourists, and tourists of color. Meanwhile, Montreal scored highest for traffic safety.
Based on the data, Australia ranks 10th among the safest countries in the world, a significant drop from its 4th place ranking last year.
Nevertheless, Sydney is still considered a safe tourist destination, with its ranking rising to 4th place in 2024, compared to 10th place in 2023.
Sydney is also the only Australian city to appear on the list of the 15 safest cities in the world. According to the report, wildlife is the main danger to watch out for in this Oceania nation.
