200 hotels and restaurants in Hue city put up "No Smoking" signs

On August 16, in Hue city, the Tobacco Harm Prevention Fund (Ministry of Health) launched a campaign to promote smoke-free environments in restaurants, hotels and public places.

This event opens a series of activities. held in key tourism provinces and cities including Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Khanh Hoa, continuing the achievements of many years in building smoke-free hotels, restaurants, and tourist attractions in provinces and cities.

According to Dr. Ha Anh Duc, Vice Chairman of the National Medical Council, Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management, Director of the Fund for Prevention and Control of Tobacco Harms ( Ministry of Health ), this campaign aims to strengthen the enforcement of the Law on Prevention and Control of Tobacco Harms in restaurants and hotels, encourage service and tourism businesses to proactively build smoke-free spaces; raise awareness among people and tourists about the right to breathe fresh air without tobacco smoke, contributing to building the image of a civilized - friendly - safe tourist destination.

Highlights of the launching ceremony include: Ambassadors sharing the campaign message; campaign launching ceremony to spread the message calling on hotels and restaurants to join hands in implementing smoke-free environment regulations; cycling and mobile propaganda activities on the streets; hanging/posting "No Smoking" signs at 200 hotels and restaurants in Hue city.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Dr. Ha Anh Duc called on Restaurants and hotels comply with regulations and take the lead in implementing and maintaining a smoke-free environment, considering this a quality standard for business services, not only for the health of the community but also to protect the health of their own employees; each citizen should become a “smoke-free ambassador” – speak up to remind and protect a clean common space for themselves and the community.

He also expressed his hope that the movement to build smoke-free hotels and restaurants will become a sustainable movement, so that restaurants, hotels, and tourist attractions in Vietnam can truly become smoke-free spaces, contributing to protecting public health.
