4 mistakes tourists often make when coming to Thailand

Misjudging the heat, visiting too many places in one day, and spending too much time shopping are mistakes American female tourists made when they first came to Thailand.

American tourist Amrita Bhasin and her family came to Thailand in January, their first time in the country for a winter vacation. Amrita booked a room near Siam Square and enjoyed the street food and visiting the temples. The trip was rated "wonderful", but she still wished that if she had avoided the mistakes below, everything would have been more perfect.

Misconceptions about the heat in Thailand

Amrita, who lives in northern California, is used to temperatures ranging from 12 to 24 degrees Celsius during the winter months. So they had no idea how “warm” the temperatures in Thailand were. “It was consistently 36 degrees Celsius,” she said of her days in Bangkok.

Not used to the high temperatures, her family could not go out all day and had to return to the hotel at noon to avoid the heat - something they had not needed to do on previous trips.

Amrita said that if she had known that Thailand would be so hot, she would have planned to take more breaks during the day to avoid exhaustion. She also advised people to wear loose-fitting clothes that cover their legs, as they are comfortable and not too short when visiting temples.

It takes a long time to wait for a bus

When she was preparing to go out, she was instructed to book a Grab. However, they had to wait up to 30 minutes for a car, especially at crowded tourist spots like the hotel where Amrita was staying. The long wait for a car also affected her family's sightseeing plans for the day.

Spend too much time in shopping malls

The American tourist wished someone had told her not to spend so much time in shopping malls. In fact, she had spent so much time in these places that she didn't have enough time to explore other Thai destinations like Koh Samui or Phi Phi.

Go to many places in one day

Bangkok has many attractions and temples. Some places take more time to travel and visit than others. On the first day in Thailand, Amrita's family followed the schedule they had drawn up at home and visited a few destinations. However, they realized that visiting many places in one day was stressful and did not give them enough time to learn about everything such as history, culture and taking souvenir photos.

Accordingly, a tourist should only visit two "beautiful" attractions a day.
