Viettel to commercialize 5G in October

A representative from Viettel stated that the network operator will officially launch the first 5G service in Vietnam as soon as possible with wide coverage, creating a new era of smart connectivity in Vietnam. However, prior to that, starting from October 10th, customers with 5G devices can subscribe to 5G service packages at Viettel stores nationwide at a lower price than 4G.

Thus, after being granted a frequency license, Viettel officially commercialized 5G. In August 2024, Viettel was also the only telecommunications company to announce the successful deployment of a 5G SA network in Vietnam.

A representative from Viettel added that, using the "Golden Frequency" of 2.6GHz, Viettel's 5G network has nearly twice the coverage area of ​​other common 5G bands. The first advantage of Viettel's 5G over 4G is its speed, which can reach 700Mbps-1Gb, 10 times faster than 4G, with virtually no latency, enabling Viettel to provide high-quality entertainment services.

Speed ​​is also essential for connections requiring accuracy and real-time performance, such as self-driving cars, remote medical surgery, and smart city monitoring and control. On the other hand, multi-device connectivity is fundamental to the development of IoT (Internet of Things) such as smart factories and smart agriculture .

According to VinaPhone representatives, VinaPhone 5G coverage is now available in many provinces and cities nationwide. From October 13, 2024, VinaPhone customers will be able to experience super-fast 5G for free in areas with 5G coverage. VinaPhone 5G network will soon be available nationwide.

Previously, in March 2024, Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group ( VNPT ) successfully won the auction for the C2 frequency band (3700MHz - 3800MHz) allocated for 5G.

Winning the C2 frequency band auction is of great significance, allowing VNPT to have more network equipment options, the most reasonable 5G network deployment costs, and meet its strategy of deploying the fastest 5G network in Vietnam, providing customers with super-fast and multi-application 5G experiences.

According to the plan, by the end of 2024, VNPT will complete the installation of over 3,000 VinaPhone 5G base stations to ensure stable and continuous coverage, especially in urban areas and major economic centers nationwide.

According to the Ministry of Information and Communications, as of October 11th, there were approximately over 700,000 2G-only subscribers nationwide, a sharp decrease compared to January 2024, when the entire network had over 18 million 2G subscribers. The Ministry of Information and Communications acknowledges that this represents a significant effort by network operators in maintaining network quality, developing 5G networks, and sustaining business operations.

A representative from Viettel also stated that, as of October 10th, Viettel had achieved 4G coverage for 95% of the population, meeting the earliest possible deadline for shutting down 2G nationwide.
