Viettel commercializes 5G in October

Viettel representative said that this network will officially launch the first 5G service in Vietnam as soon as possible with wide coverage, creating a new era of smart connectivity in Vietnam. However, before that, from October 10, customers with 5G devices can subscribe to 5G service packages at Viettel stores nationwide at a cheaper price than 4G.

Thus, after being granted a frequency license, Viettel has officially commercialized 5G. In August 2024, Viettel was also the only telecommunications company to announce the successful deployment of the 5G SA network in Vietnam.

Viettel representative added that using the "Golden frequency" of 2.6GHz, Viettel's 5G network has a coverage area nearly twice as wide as other popular 5G bands. The first advantage of Viettel's 5G compared to 4G is speed, which can reach from 700Mbps-1Gb, 10 times faster than 4G and has almost no latency, creating conditions for Viettel to provide high-quality entertainment services.

Speed ​​is also necessary for connections that require precision and real-time such as: self-driving cars, remote medical surgery, smart city monitoring and control, etc. On the other hand, multi-device connection is the foundation for IoT (internet of things) development such as smart factories and smart agriculture .

According to a VinaPhone representative, VinaPhone 5G waves are available in many provinces and cities across the country. From October 13, 2024, VinaPhone customers will be able to experience super-fast 5G for free in areas with 5G coverage. The VinaPhone 5G network will soon be nationwide.

Previously, in March 2024, Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group ( VNPT ) successfully won the auction of the C2 frequency block (3700MHz - 3800MHz) for 5G.

Winning the auction for the C2 frequency block is very important, allowing VNPT to have many options for network equipment, the most reasonable cost for 5G network deployment, meeting the strategy of deploying the highest speed 5G network in Vietnam, providing customers with super-speed and multi-application 5G experiences.

According to the plan, by the end of 2024, VNPT will complete the installation of over 3,000 VinaPhone 5G transmission stations to ensure stable and continuous coverage, especially in urban areas and major economic centers nationwide.

According to the Ministry of Information and Communications, as of October 11, the country still had about 700,000 2G Only subscribers, a sharp decrease compared to January 2024, when the entire network had more than 18 million 2G subscribers. The Ministry of Information and Communications stated that this is a great effort by the network operator as we maintain network quality, develop the 5G network as well as maintain production and business.

Viettel representative also said that as of October 10, Viettel has reached 4G coverage of 95% of the population, meeting the earliest completion of the roadmap to turn off 2G waves nationwide.
