Dam Chuon, part of the Tam Giang - Cau Hai lagoon system, is not only famous for its local specialties but also a destination for local and community tourism experiences. With the support of the TVA Project and local authorities, 6 tourism service establishments in Phu An have officially committed to implementing plastic reduction solutions in their business operations. The establishments include: Huong Dam Chuon Homestay, Dam Chuon Huong Quan restaurants, Dam Chuon An Phu, Chuon Lagoon, Dam Chuon Hoi Quan and Thuy Trieu Quan.
Tourism service establishments have implemented plastic reduction practices through restaurants and homestays replacing single-use plastic bottles with reusable and environmentally friendly glass bottles. Implementing the use of durable stainless steel food containers and contributing to the reduction of plastic bags and plastic waste.
At the homestay, ceramic bottles for shampoo and shower gel have been installed to replace single-use plastic items during the stay. A free water station has been set up to serve tourists, minimizing the use of plastic water bottles on each trip. Along with that is a system of communication signs, classified trash bins, and stories about the practice of reducing plastic and classifying waste at the source that 6 owners of tourism service businesses have been telling to tourists - as a way to spread the spirit of green living.
Mr. Nguyen The Gioi , Vice Chairman of Phu An Commune People's Committee, said that with the support of the TVA project, in 2025, the Chuon lagoon ecological model to reduce plastic will be implemented locally, with the goal of reducing at least 50% of single-use plastic products in tourism activities lost to the environment. 100% of tourism service businesses and related partners will be trained, raise awareness and change behavior on reducing plastic waste. By 2028, Chuon lagoon will be built into an eco-tourism destination without plastic waste, contributing to protecting and preserving the unique landscape of the Tam Giang - Cau Hai lagoon system.
On this occasion, Hue College of Tourism has coordinated with travel agencies to organize an experiential tour program at Chuon Lagoon, integrating eco-tourism activities with the message of reducing plastic waste. Participating in the tour, visitors not only enjoy the peaceful scenery of the lagoon and explore the local life, but also receive a direct introduction to plastic reduction efforts at 6 committed local service businesses, including homestays and typical restaurants along the lagoon.
The project “Hue – Plastic-Free Cities in Central Vietnam” was developed with funding from WWF-Norway (through WWF-Vietnam) and received by the People’s Committee of Hue City. The “Plastic-Free Cities” program is an initiative of WWF International to connect cities and tourist destinations to take action against plastic pollution. Through the program, WWF enhances the capacity of localities to achieve the goal of zero plastic waste in nature by 2030. |
