'Doing two jobs at once', how to be good?

For many years, Ms. Nguyen Thi Tien (Kien Tuong town, Long An province) has always been steadfast in the principle of fulfilling the role of a good official in public affairs, not neglecting the responsibilities of a woman in the family. In recognition of her silent efforts, in 2024, she was awarded a certificate of merit by the People's Committee of Kien Tuong town for successfully implementing the model of Women with Two Good Skills "Good at public affairs, good at housework".

As an appraiser at the Kien Tuong Town Social Insurance, Ms. Tien is in charge of appraising and controlling medical examination and treatment costs at medical facilities; at the same time, she is also responsible for issuing health insurance books and cards and social insurance for people. Previously, she worked in the medical field, then switched to this industry for about 16 years.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Tien (right) always tries to balance work and family.

The job not only requires accuracy and sensitivity to numbers but also requires a spirit of fairness and responsibility, helping people access the right and sufficient social security benefits. Ms. Tien shared: "As a law enforcement agency, I am always aware of updating circulars, decrees, and new points of the law in a timely manner to best serve the people, ensuring that people and workers fully enjoy the regimes, have contributed, and have received." From 2016-2023, Ms. Tien has achieved the title of Emulation Fighter at the grassroots level, has 6 initiatives and experiences recognized by the provincial Social Security and 2 certificates of merit awarded by the Vietnam Social Security.

Not only is Ms. Tien “good at public affairs”, she is also “good at housework”. Despite being busy with work, she always keeps the principle: “At work, focus 100% on work, when home, spend all her time with family”. Her two daughters are always well-behaved and study well because their mother is always by their side to encourage and accompany them both in their studies and in their spirit. The dinners she prepares herself are the “glue” that maintains the warmth in the small house.

Talking about living with her in-laws, Ms. Tien recalled: “At first, I couldn’t avoid the situation of “mother-in-law and daughter-in-law”, but gradually, the family understood each other’s feelings, I also learned to be more tolerant, tolerant and giving.” In married life, whenever she had a conflict with her husband, she told herself to know when to stop, not to push the story too far, although it was inevitable to argue, the important thing was to go to the end of the road together.

For Ms. Tien, the secret to harmonizing the two roles of a dedicated cadre and a family woman lies in scientific arrangement, always putting the word "love" alongside the word "responsibility". Besides striving to complete her tasks well, actively participating in emulation movements, she often spends time taking care of her family, raising and caring for her children, sharing difficulties with her husband, caring for both parents, and taking care of her relatives.

According to Ms. Tien, women who want to balance “one role and two jobs” must know how to love themselves properly. “To do well in both public and private affairs, women need to be in good health, maintain a healthy lifestyle, practice positive thinking, exercise regularly, and eat scientifically. A healthy person will be beautiful from the inside and have enough energy to love and contribute,” Ms. Tien shared./.
