Di Linh: Gradually forming a civilized lifestyle in weddings, funerals and festivals

Comrade Vu Duc Nhuan - Vice Chairman of Di Linh District People's Committee delivered the opening speech at the Conference.

Speaking at the opening of the Conference, comrade Vu Duc Nhuan - Vice Chairman of the District People's Committee, Head of the Steering Committee of the Movement for All People to Unite to Build a Cultural Life in Di Linh District said: With the locality's characteristics of having a large natural area, the largest administrative unit in the province, ethnic minorities from the Central Highlands account for nearly 40% with 28 ethnic groups, in recent years, Party committees and authorities at all levels from district to grassroots have always paid attention to the work of building culture and people in ethnic minority areas, focusing on eliminating backward customs and practices... In particular, the implementation of a civilized lifestyle in weddings, funerals and festivals has been implemented by Di Linh district since December 31, 2021.

Accordingly, 19/19 communes and towns in the district organized a ceremony to launch a campaign for the entire population to practice a civilized lifestyle in weddings, funerals and festivals in the area, and at the same time launched 19 pilot models. Up to now, the district has 79 models of practicing a civilized lifestyle in weddings, funerals and festivals that are being maintained and replicated in the community. The construction of the models has created a strong change in the awareness and actions of each person in strictly practicing a civilized lifestyle in weddings and funerals. From 2022 to now, the district has had 5,022 weddings and 3,161 funerals, of which 4,624 weddings and 3,060 funerals practice a civilized lifestyle. All festivals in the district are organized according to a civilized lifestyle.

In addition, propaganda work was promoted on mass media, implemented in various forms such as organizing training conferences, village and hamlet meetings, associations, radio systems and social networking sites, electronic information pages, mobile information, visual propaganda on billboards, posters, etc. At the same time, more than 2,000 documents and leaflets were compiled, printed and distributed to individuals and organizations. Communes and towns printed and distributed commitments to 39,536 households who signed a commitment to practice a civilized lifestyle in weddings, funerals and festivals.

After 4 years of implementing civilized lifestyle in weddings, funerals and festivals, people have changed their behavior as well as their awareness, contributing to the formation and expansion of civilized lifestyle. However, besides the achieved results, the implementation of civilized lifestyle in Di Linh district still has some shortcomings. Specifically, in weddings, some households still organize intimate parties with a large number of guests, ostentatious, causing waste; wearing traditional wedding costumes in ethnic minority areas is still limited. Regarding funerals, the phenomenon of scattering votive paper on the funeral procession, affecting urban aesthetics and environmental sanitation, still occurs... Some folk festivals are still simple in form of ceremony, the content of the festival is not rich, not fully meeting the needs of cultural and festival activities of the people;...

The conference was attended by village chiefs and residential group leaders of 183 villages and residential groups in the district.

In the coming time, the Steering Committee of the Movement for the People to Unite to Build a Cultural Life in Di Linh District determines to continue to promote the implementation of a civilized lifestyle in weddings, funerals and festivals with the spirit of: "Using beauty to eliminate ugliness", "slow and steady rain soaks in", "water flows and wears away stone" to create sustainability. At the same time, strengthen the mobilization of people to voluntarily and consciously implement conventions and village covenants, build cultural families, cultural residential areas, and typical communes. Continue to build and replicate typical models every year.

Vice Chairman of Di Linh District People's Committee Vu Duc Nhuan awarded Certificates of Merit from the District People's Committee to collectives and individuals who have made achievements in implementing and practicing civilized lifestyles in weddings, funerals and festivals.

At the conference, delegates proposed solutions for implementation in the coming time. Representatives of agencies, units and localities also presented papers sharing experiences, good practices and typical models in implementing civilized lifestyles in weddings, funerals and festivals.

On this occasion, the People's Committee of Di Linh district awarded Certificates of Merit to 9 collectives and 9 individuals who had achievements in implementing and practicing civilized lifestyle in weddings, funerals and festivals in the district.
