According to the Department of Higher Education , Ministry of Education and Training, as of 5:00 p.m. on July 30, the time the online registration portal was closed, the Ministry of Education and Training's General Admission Support System recorded a total of more than 733,000 candidates who had entered their admission wishes, equivalent to 68.5% of the number of candidates registering for the 2024 high school graduation exam.
In 2023, more than 660,000 candidates entered their admission wishes on the System, equivalent to 65.9% of the number of candidates registering for the 2023 high school graduation exam.
Previously, in 2022, the Ministry of Education and Training recorded more than 616,000 candidates registering for university entrance exams, accounting for 64.1% of the number of candidates registering for the 2022 high school graduation exam.
Speaking to Dan Viet Newspaper, MSc. Pham Thai Son, Director of the Admissions and Communications Center, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, said: "Statistics show that the rate of university admission applications has increased compared to last year because in 2024, universities will consider admission quotas based on high school transcripts lower than in 2023 and increase admission quotas based on high school graduation exam scores.
The number of candidates who did not register for the exam actually had their own plans. Students went to study abroad or followed international programs or attended international universities in Vietnam. The rest went to college and did other jobs."
This data also shows that this year's benchmark scores at top universities and majors will increase by about 1 - 3 points. For schools such as Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics , Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Foreign Trade University, National Economics University... the benchmark score may be 24 - 26 points or higher to have a chance of being admitted. Other universities still have the same benchmark scores as last year, around 16 - 22 points."

Dr. Le Anh Duc, Deputy Head of the Training Management Department, National Economics University, said: "According to statistics, this year, the total number of candidates registering for university admission has increased. From there, it is expected that the standard score will increase and be an abundant source for schools to consider.
The admission score for the National Economics University based on the 2024 high school graduation exam score is expected to increase slightly. The reason is that this year the school will reserve 18%, a decrease of 7% compared to 2023. Secondly, the general high school graduation exam score in 2024 is considered higher than last year.
