80 years of the Vietnam People's Army: A symbol of heroism and development

After 80 years of building, fighting and growing, inheriting and promoting the spirit of patriotism, the quintessence of the unique military art of the Vietnamese people and the support of international friends, the Vietnam People's Army has continuously grown and developed, always demonstrating the mettle of a revolutionary army, born from the people, fighting for the people, worthy of being a special political force, an absolutely loyal and trustworthy fighting force of the Party, State and People of Vietnam.

In an interview with VNA reporters in Havana, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army, Lieutenant General Víctor Leonardo Rojo Ramos - Member of the Party Central Committee, Director of the General Political Department of the Ministry of the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces - shared his profound comments and assessments. According to Lieutenant General Ramos, the development of the Vietnam People's Army is admirable. The Vietnam People's Army demonstrated its heroism in the First Indochina War against the French colonialists, most notably the Dien Bien Phu victory in 1954. In the resistance war against the US imperialists, the Vietnam People's Army continued to affirm its role when facing an opponent with superior technology. The Vietnamese army gradually perfected its strategies and tactics, oriented the battle of attrition and thereby won a historic victory on April 30, 1975. Since this victory, the Vietnam People's Army has focused on defending the Fatherland and rebuilding the country. The Party and State have made continuous efforts to modernize the armed forces, following two strategic directions: improving the professional capacity of soldiers and modernizing weapons and technology. These efforts have contributed to building a modern military force, focusing on national defense, cyber security and international cooperation. The Vietnam People's Army has made remarkable progress in advanced technologies such as drones and air defense systems, contributing to improving defense capabilities to protect the people. Lieutenant General Ramos praised Vietnam's "4 no's" defense policy, considering it a direction that promotes peaceful and balanced diplomacy. He said that this policy contributes to maintaining friendly relations and mutual respect with countries, while protecting territorial integrity. Accordingly, the Vietnam People's Army has developed strategic principles to guide the country's posture in terms of defense and security, becoming a valuable international reference.

Lieutenant General Ramos also highly valued the defense relationship between Vietnam and Cuba, emphasizing the history of cooperation and fighting against colonialism and imperialism. The areas of cooperation include military training, engineering, intelligence, science and technology and logistics. He affirmed that the relationship between the armed forces of Vietnam and Cuba is a reflection of the long-standing friendship based on common ideological principles and a common history of resistance, reaching a new height after more than 40 years of signing the bilateral military cooperation treaty. This demonstrates the strengthening of the relationship between the armed forces of small countries with a long tradition of struggle and where the military is the people themselves and has deep patriotism.
