The Quality of Life Institute, headquartered in London (UK), recently published the "Happy City Index" of 250 cities around the world .
Cities are ranked based on five factors that have a direct impact on happiness, including: Citizenship, governance, environment, economy and transportation.
The top spot this year goes to Aarhus, Denmark’s second largest city. Also known as the “City of Smiles,” Aarhus is known for its unique architectural landscape, gardens and museums that attract tourists and locals alike.
The top 17 highest-scoring cities are all located in Europe, particularly in Denmark, Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands, Finland, the UK, Sweden, Austria and Iceland.
European cities dominate the gold group, with 37 names featured. One lucky American city to make the cut is Minneapolis, Minnesota.
