Hendrio could be naturalized in 2025

Midfielder Hendrio Araujo has completed the transfer procedure to Hanoi FC with a 3-year contract. The player born in 1994 can only play from next season, however, he has been training with the capital team since then.

Hendrio signed a contract with Binh Dinh Club in January 2021 to play for the martial arts team for 2 seasons. In the 2023 season, Hendrio moved to Nam Dinh . Here, the midfielder who grew up at La Masia (Barcelona) played 53 matches, scored 16 and assisted 21 goals.

Last season, Hendrio had 10 goals and 9 assists, combining with Xuan Son to form a quality attacking duo that brought Nam Dinh Club straight to the V-League throne.

Hendrio has played in the V-League for 5 years. He came to Vietnam in December 2020 to negotiate a contract with Binh Dinh team, then played continuously and settled down in Vietnam until now. Hendrio can receive Vietnamese citizenship and this is the 31-year-old player's top goal this year.

According to the 2008 Vietnamese Nationality Law, Hendrio can become a citizen in December 2025, or in the case of Xuan Son, even earlier.

Xuan Son arrived in Vietnam in December 2019 and signed a contract with Nam Dinh Club in January 2020. He became a Vietnamese citizen in October 2024 and was then allowed by the World Football Federation (FIFA) to play from December 20, 2024, when he has lived in Vietnam for 5 years.

Therefore, like his compatriot, Hendrio can receive Vietnamese citizenship in October 2025, but must wait until December 2025 to be licensed to compete by FIFA (after having lived continuously in Vietnam for 5 years).

Coach Kim Sang-sik and his team only have 4 official matches left in 2025, respectively against Malaysia (June), Nepal (2 matches, October) and Laos (November). Even if he has citizenship and is called up to the national team, Hendrio will not be able to play in these matches.

Hendrio has proven his class in Nam Dinh and Binh Dinh teams.

The final match of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers between Vietnam and Malaysia will take place in March 2026. At this time, when he has Vietnamese citizenship and meets the competition standards, Hendrio can play for the Vietnamese team.

What name did Hendrio take?

The 2008 Law on Vietnamese Nationality stipulates: A person applying for Vietnamese nationality must have a Vietnamese name. This name is chosen by the person applying for Vietnamese nationality and is clearly stated in the decision to grant Vietnamese nationality.

Rafaelson chose the name Nguyen Xuan Son, goalkeeper Filip Nguyen chose the name Nguyen Filip. In the near future, Hendrio will also choose his own Vietnamese name.

According to Thanh Nien Newspaper, Hendrio plans to take the name Do Hoang Hen. On the day of his debut for Hanoi Club, the 31-year-old player told fans: "Hello, Hen here!".
