At the meeting, the Indian Council for Global Trade and Technology, along with representatives of departments, the Kien Giang Center for Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion, and local travel agencies discussed many issues on economic and trade cooperation, especially promoting the reopening of the India - Phu Quoc flight route, and developing tourism to bring Indian tourists to the pearl island for fun.
Mr. Nguyen Chi Thanh - Deputy Director of Kien Giang Department of Tourism - said that in 2024 Kien Giang is expected to welcome more than 35,000 Indian visitors.
In recent times, tourism and accommodation service businesses in Phu Quoc have continuously launched unique and classy tourism products and improved service quality to meet the criteria of Indian tourists. In particular, many billionaire couples from this country have chosen Phu Quoc as a unique, interesting and meaningful wedding venue.
"Indian tourists are always a potential international tourist market to Phu Quoc. In the first two months of 2025, Kien Giang is expected to welcome about 5,000 Indian tourists.
We think the issue here is to have a plan or roadmap to promote tourism connections in a systematic way, and reopen direct flights from India to Phu Quoc. This will make it more convenient for Indian and Vietnamese tourists to travel between the two countries," said Mr. Thanh.
Meanwhile, Dr. Gaurav Gupta - founder and chairman of the Global Technology and Business Council of India (GTTCI) - said that India has cooperated with Kien Giang in many areas of trade in recent times, especially wanting to connect and develop tourism. The number of Indian visitors to Kien Giang has increased 10 times compared to 5 years ago.
"We hope that through this meeting, we will strengthen the connection and soon reopen the India - Phu Quoc route to develop tourism between the two countries," said Dr. Gaurav Gupta.

The import-export turnover to the Indian market is about 500,000 USD, mainly leather shoes. Kien Giang calls for cooperation and investment in 55 projects, including urban construction, clean agricultural production, high-tech agriculture, clean energy, renewable energy, wastewater and waste treatment and logistics services...
"India has developed strongly in digital transformation and information technology application. We hope that India will cooperate, support and train us in developing digital transformation and information technology application, contributing to local socio-economic development," said Ms. Lua.
