Vice Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee Ngo Cong Thuc said that, implementing investment in strategic traffic routes to ensure connectivity between An Giang and Kien Giang provinces, An Giang Provincial People's Committee has approved investment in upgrading 6 routes, including: Route N1, Provincial Road (DT.) 943, Route DT.945, Route DT.947, Route DT.958, Route DT.960. Upgrading and expanding these routes to a scale of road width from 7 - 11m, 2 lanes for motor vehicles, meeting the standards of grade IV, grade III plain roads TCVN 4054-2005 to the border of Kien Giang province. Particularly, DT.960 has an upgraded road width of 5.5m, meeting the standard of grade V plain roads, DT.943 meets the standard of grade III plain roads.

According to Nguyen Thanh Sang, Deputy Director of An Giang Department of Construction, in the process of investing in these routes, the Department of Construction (formerly the Department of Transport) has coordinated with Kien Giang province on the route roadmap and plan for the parties to upgrade to ensure synchronous and interconnected connections. The current status of connecting routes between the two provinces is mainly upgrading existing routes, not yet synchronously and interconnected. Most of the routes in An Giang have been invested in upgrading to the administrative boundary between the two provinces.

Leaders of An Giang and Kien Giang provinces surveyed and researched to propose investment in building a road connecting Long Xuyen City - Rach Gia City.

Specifically, the current status of the shortest connecting traffic route from the center of Long Xuyen City (An Giang Province) to the administrative center of Kien Giang Province (Rach Gia City) is DT.943 and DT.960, passing through Thoai Son District (An Giang Province) connecting with DT.961 through Tan Hiep District and Rach Gia City (Kien Giang Province). The current status of these sections in An Giang Province has been upgraded and put into operation. Specifically, DT.943 reaches level III, with a road surface width of 14m - 21m; DT.960 reaches level V, with a road surface width of 5.5m. The current status of the road section in Kien Giang Province (DT.961) has not been invested in upgrading and expanding the road surface in sync with the section in An Giang Province.

Regarding the DT.958 route through Tri Ton district (An Giang province) connecting with the DT.970 route through Hon Dat district (Kien Giang province). The current status of this connecting route, in An Giang, has just been upgraded and put into operation in 2024, reaching level IV, with a road width of 7 - 11m, the section in Kien Giang province (DT.970) has a smaller current road width, about 6m, and has not been upgraded and expanded synchronously. For Route N1, it has been basically upgraded, connecting synchronously in terms of road width between the two provinces. The remaining routes (DT.945, DT.947) have not been connected synchronously. The sections in An Giang have been invested in upgrading and expanding according to the above scale. Up to now, the DT.945 route has been completed and put into operation in 2024, the DT.947 route is implementing the investment policy step. The sections in Kien Giang province connecting with DT.945 and DT.969 have not been invested in upgrading in sync with the projects of An Giang province.

In the process of implementing the investment to upgrade DT.945, the Department of Construction (formerly the Department of Transport of An Giang) coordinated with the Department of Transport of Kien Giang province, including the content of unifying the plan to connect regional traffic infrastructure. The project will contribute to creating a vertical axis from the North to the South connecting National Highway 91 of An Giang province with National Highway 80 of Kien Giang province. To ensure the connection of strategic traffic routes, after implementing the arrangement of administrative units, recently, the leaders of the two provinces of An Giang and Kien Giang have organized a survey, researched and proposed investment in the construction of a road connecting Long Xuyen City - Rach Gia City and worked to exchange and collect information, serving the work of making investment plans and submitting them to competent authorities for consideration and decision.

According to the proposal of An Giang Department of Construction, 5 connecting routes will be built, including: DT.941 connecting DT.958 through An Giang's Tam Ngan canal, about 75km long, or the route following National Highway N1 (planned National Highway N2); from Long Xuyen to National Highway 91 through DT.945 of An Giang, about 80km; from Long Xuyen, follow National Highway 91 to Rach Soi intersection, go to the expressway (Long Xuyen - Rach Gia) about 75km; the shortest route from Long Xuyen follows DT.943 to DT.960 of An Giang, connecting via DT.961 to Rach Gia, about 60km. “Through research, the current route DT.960, DT.961 on Kien Giang side runs along the river bank, houses are close together, difficult to expand, the Department of Construction proposed a new route connecting from Lac Hong intersection of Kien Giang to the intersection connecting to the current expressway DT.943 under investment, this section is about 46km and then connecting the current DT.943 to Long Xuyen 12km. So, the total route is about 58km, this option is the most optimal" - Deputy Director of An Giang Department of Construction Nguyen Thanh Sang said.

Vice Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee Ngo Cong Thuc informed: "The two provinces have discussed, surveyed, and assessed the current situation and feasibility to agree on a research proposal to invest in the construction of a route connecting Long Xuyen City - Rach Gia City as soon as possible, creating the shortest route, meeting the travel needs and economic development of An Giang province after the merger of the two provinces; meeting the needs of developing transport infrastructure, connecting the two key urban areas of Long Xuyen City (An Giang province) and Rach Gia City (Kien Giang province). Through discussion, it was agreed to choose the route connecting Long Xuyen - Rach Gia with the starting point at the intersection of DT.943 with Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang Expressway. The end point of the route is at Lac Hong intersection (Kien Giang province). The Provincial People's Committee assigned the An Giang Department of Construction to prepare 3 route options, as a basis for comparison, select the optimal option, to report to the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee of the new province for consideration, decision, and early implementation.
