An Giang accelerates at the end of the year

Closing the first 9 months of 2025, An Giang's GRDP increased by 7.85%, equal to the national average and ranked 3rd among 8 provinces and cities in the Southern region. This result reflects the locality's efforts to overcome difficulties, creating an important foundation to complete the annual growth target of over 8%, opening up prospects for a breakthrough in the coming period.

3 economic zones growing together

An Giang's economy grew in all three sectors in the first nine months, with agriculture, forestry and fishery increasing by 3.22%, industry and construction by 11.88%, and services by 10.40%. Processing industry, infrastructure construction, tourism and export were the main growth drivers.

At the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway construction site through An Giang, the working atmosphere in the first days of October was bustling, with the spirit of "overcoming the sun and overcoming the rain", striving to open the technical traffic before December 10, 2025. According to the Provincial Project Management Board, by October 6, the project's construction progress reached more than 61% of the contract value, exceeding the set plan. Along with the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway, An Giang is urgently implementing many key projects to serve the APEC 2027 Summit Week. Projects such as the APEC Conference Center and Phu Quoc International Airport are basically on schedule. These are strategic projects, not only creating a breakthrough in transportation but also opening up regional connectivity, promoting investment attraction, developing tourism and enhancing the local economy.

The production atmosphere at the factories is equally vibrant. At Thai Binh Kien Giang Joint Stock Company, more than 4,200 workers are working hard on modern production lines. The company's goal in 2025 is to produce 6.5 million pairs of shoes. According to Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan - General Director of the company, by the end of September, the company exported more than 3.7 million pairs of shoes, reaching a total value of more than 61 million USD. The main consumer markets include the US, EU and some Asian countries. "We focus on training human resources, improving technology, optimizing processes, thanks to which production activities are stable, ensuring output and quality according to international requirements," said Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan.

The success of enterprises like Thai Binh Kien Giang contributes to the total export turnover of the whole province reaching 1.7 billion USD in the first 9 months of 2025, an increase of 8.45% over the same period in 2024. The industrial production value of the whole province increased by 14.72%, of which the processing and manufacturing industry increased sharply by 15.06%, continuing to play a leading role. Key products such as frozen seafood, footwear, cement, and MDF wood all increased steadily.

The well-developed trade and service sector is an important driving force for economic growth. Total retail sales of goods and service revenue in the first 9 months reached over VND220,000 billion, up over 19% over the same period. An Giang welcomed over 19.96 million visitors, up 18.67% over the same period. Total tourism revenue reached about VND51,871 billion, up nearly 76%. According to Director of the Department of Tourism Bui Quoc Thai, the tourism industry has proactively restructured the market, innovated products, promoted communication and upgraded infrastructure.

In the agricultural sector, aquaculture is a bright spot with a growth rate of 7.8%, output reaching 1.22 million tons. According to Mr. Phu Vinh Thai - Deputy Head of the Department of Fisheries and Fisheries Control of the province, An Giang is encouraging farming models that apply high technology and are environmentally friendly. Key products such as brackish water shrimp and marine fish are being promoted domestically and internationally, aiming to build a sustainable seafood brand.

Take decisive action

Despite many positive results, An Giang still has many "bottlenecks" that need to be resolved to create momentum for sustainable growth. The progress of disbursement of public investment capital has only reached 40.86% of the capital plan assigned by the Prime Minister and 32.52% of the plan assigned by the Provincial People's Council.

To achieve the 2025 growth target of at least 8.5%, in the last months of the year, the province will focus on improving the investment environment, attracting high-quality FDI projects, removing obstacles for large projects, and creating breakthroughs in infrastructure. The agricultural sector will continue to restructure towards integration, circulation, and increased added value. In business development, the province will promote support for access to capital, premises, and labor.

Tourism is identified as a key economic sector. Mr. Bui Quoc Thai said: “In the coming time, An Giang will focus on communication and promotion in international markets, positioning tourism brands associated with local identity, improving the quality of human resources, digital transformation, green transformation and strengthening regional connectivity”.

Currently, units and localities are urgently handling difficulties and obstacles in disbursing public investment capital in the spirit of "6 clear", striving to achieve 100% disbursement of capital plan by the end of the year. According to Deputy Director of the Department of Finance Ngo Kieu Quyen, disbursement of public investment capital is a key political task. Heads of units and investors must be responsible for progress, quality and efficiency of capital use. Along with that, urge contractors to perform construction in accordance with the contract, ensure the project is put into use soon, and promote investment efficiency.

The first three quarters of the year are the “sowing” season, the last months of the year will be the “harvesting season”. From the existing foundation, now is the time for An Giang to seize the opportunity, take drastic action, unanimously remove bottlenecks, create breakthroughs so that growth is not just a number but a real transformation.
