Tra Su sluice is expected to open on September 15.
According to the An Giang Province Hydrometeorological Station, due to the impact of floods from the upper Mekong River, in the first week of September 2025, the water level on rivers and canals in the upstream area of the Mekong River in Tan Chau, Khanh An and Chau Doc rose rapidly.
The highest water level this period is estimated to be about 2.8-2.9m in Tan Chau and about 2.7-2.8m in Chau Doc.
In the Long Xuyen Quadrangle area, the highest water level is 40 - 60cm higher than the average of the same period in many years. In the downstream area of the river, the highest water level is about 25 - 30cm higher than the average of the same period in many years.
Up to now, communes and wards in the Long Xuyen Quadrangle have basically completed the harvest of the 2025 summer-autumn rice crop. The remaining 91.7 hectares of rice and crops downstream of Tha La and Tra Su sluices have not been harvested in An Cu commune and Chi Lang ward, and are expected to be completely harvested on September 15.
Based on the assessment of the flood situation on rivers and the production situation of the 2025 summer-autumn crop in communes and wards in the Long Xuyen Quadrangle, the Provincial People's Committee approved the proposal of the Department of Agriculture and Environment to open the Tha La and Tra Su sluices on September 15 to control floods.
The Provincial People's Committee requested An Giang Irrigation Exploitation One Member Limited Liability Company to regularly monitor and track the changes in water levels upstream and downstream of the sluice and inform the An Giang Provincial Irrigation Sub-Department for monitoring and timely advising the Provincial People's Committee for direction.
The Provincial People's Committee assigned the People's Committee of An Cu commune and Chi Lang ward to direct relevant departments, agencies and sectors to organize work and propagate to households in the area to plant late or outside the 2025 summer-autumn crop plan to commit to planting according to the plan and annual recommended crop schedule of the agricultural sector.
Communes and wards in the Long Xuyen Quadrangle regularly propagate, mobilize, inspect, monitor and have drastic solutions in directing seeding to ensure the right recommended crop schedule, to avoid the situation of uneven seeding, causing difficulties in managing plant diseases and managing the operation of irrigation systems serving production.
