The photo, taken in Lao Cai by UK-based photographer Justin Cliffe, was chosen from thousands of entries by National Geographic Traveler and was described by the judges as “a moment between generations that carries so much beauty and humanity,” according to CNN .
"The colors, light and textures in the photo are very harmonious," the judges commented in a press release.
According to National Geographic , the art of embroidery has been passed down through generations of the Red Dao community - an ethnic minority in Vietnam.
Other winning entries include an eye-like geothermal lake in Iceland, a family-run restaurant in Tibet, and a dramatic moment capturing a surprise encounter between a Bonelli's eagle and a fox in Spain.
The annual competition celebrates the best travel photography from around the world by photographers - both professional and amateur - from the UK and Ireland.
Cliffe's winning entry was selected from six top entries across categories including landscape, people, wildlife, food , urban life and photo series.
"Our competition is going from strength to strength, and this year was clearly one of the best yet," Pat Riddell, editor-in-chief of National Geographic Traveler (UK), said in a statement.
“With images capturing everything from majestic landscapes in Iceland and Italy to dramatic wildlife moments in Spain and Canada, the 18 finalists, selected from thousands of entries, have truly elevated travel photography with their creativity and skill,” added Riddell.
