These days, Da Nang is in the peak of a heat wave, with temperatures sometimes reaching 40 degrees Celsius. To avoid the intense heat of summer, many people in the melon-growing village of Truong Dinh (Hoa Lien commune, Hoa Vang district, Da Nang) have chosen to go to the fields at night.

Around 7pm, many farmers wear flashlights to work, the fields are illuminated by the bright light of flashlights.

The nighttime work of farmers is to cut the tops, water the plants with fertilizer, sow melon seeds... Although working at night is more difficult because it is dark, it helps them maintain their health compared to the hot weather during the day.

Using a flashlight to classify seeds, Ms. Tran Thi Triet (living in Hoa Lien commune, Hoa Vang district, Da Nang) said that this year her family planted 1 hectare of watermelon, and many places have begun to harvest, so work is in a busy phase.

“In the morning, at 4:30, I go to the field to cool off. When the sun comes up, I go home. In the afternoon, when the sun goes down, I go back to the field until midnight,” Triet shared.

For Mr. Vo Van Binh (residing in Hoa Lien commune, Hoa Vang district, Da Nang), he just harvested the melons planted 2 months ago and is starting to plant a new crop.

“The soil in Truong Dinh village is dry, so during the day the heat is stifling, blowing on us. My wife and I take advantage of having an early meal and then going to the field. It not only keeps us healthy, but the seeds are also healthier than sowing during the hot, sunny day,” said Mr. Binh.

Many watermelon growers also harvest at night. According to Ms. Le Thi Moc (living in Hoa Lien commune, Hoa Vang district, Da Nang), Truong Dinh watermelons are delicious, this year there is a good harvest, the price at the garden is 7,500 VND/kg.

According to statistics from the Farmers' Association of Hoa Lien commune, by 2023, there were 24 households growing melons in the commune with a total area of ​​16.5 hectares.
