On the morning of November 14, at a food store in Cat Lai ward, Ms. Giang said she had to consider a lot before choosing vegetables.
"I didn't pay much attention to the price before, but now I'm really hesitant," Ms. Giang said while holding a package of mustard greens priced at 34,000 VND/kg, an increase of about 12,000 VND compared to the last time she bought it in October.
A general survey in the store shows that most vegetables and tubers have increased in price. Water spinach is priced at 28,000 VND, an increase of about 6,000 VND compared to the beginning of the month. Spinach, cabbage, carrots, and cucumbers have recorded increases of 8,000 VND to 12,000 VND each, with some items up to 40,000 VND/kg.

Many green vegetables at the market in Cat Lai ward cost 30,000 - 40,000 VND/kg on the morning of November 15.
At Cay Xoai market, also in Cat Lai ward, many people who went to the market on the morning of November 15 shared their surprise when the price of vegetables was more expensive than before. Ms. Nga, a vegetable and fruit trader, said that not only leafy vegetables and tubers but also some fruits had increased in price and were in short supply. The green papaya she usually imported for 12,000 - 15,000 VND/kg has now exceeded 20,000. "Even jute, which is usually 5,000 VND/bunch, is now 10,000 VND," Ms. Nga said.
According to Ms. Nga, the price increase of vegetables is due to a decrease in supply at some wholesale markets. This situation happens every year after storms in some localities, so fewer vegetables are brought to Ho Chi Minh City. "But the price increase of some types up to 20,000 VND/kg like now is also rare," the female trader said and hoped that in the next one or two weeks, prices would return to a stable level.
At Van Thanh market area, Thanh My Tay ward, many traders also said that vegetable prices have increased by more than 30% since the beginning of November. Items with sharp increases are green mustard greens, water spinach, Malabar spinach, cabbage, tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, etc.
The increase in vegetable prices has made many people hesitate when going to the market. Holding two tomatoes at 35,000 VND/kg, Ms. Xuan Hoa, Thanh My Tay ward, said "buying vegetables for the whole family to eat for the day would cost more than 100,000 VND".
However, according to some retailers, although prices have increased, the quantity of goods remains stable, and some popular vegetables they ordered are still available, "not so scarce".
A quick survey at some supermarkets also showed that vegetable prices increased by 10-15%. At the MM Mega Market Vietnam system, a supermarket representative said that they ensured the supply of vegetables and fruits from Da Lat, Moc Chau and Tien Giang . "Despite unfavorable weather conditions, we still make every effort to ensure that we fully meet the demand at centers nationwide."

Vegetables and fruits are still abundant in supermarkets on the afternoon of November 14.
A representative of a retail chain said the supermarket still maintains prices thanks to long-term contracts with suppliers, but to limit hoarding, some types of goods will be adjusted for customers buying in large quantities.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade, many price-stabilized goods, including vegetables, rice, cooking oil, poultry, and eggs, are still guaranteed to be supplied at prices 5-10% lower than the market price. Price-stabilized points of sale have also been expanded in supermarkets, convenience stores, and residential areas.
