On April 2, 2025, the Economic Security Department presided over and coordinated with the Investigation Security Department and a number of professional departments of the Provincial Police and the People's Procuracy of Bac Giang province to dismantle the case.
On April 11, 2025, the Investigation Security Agency of Bac Giang Provincial Police prosecuted and detained 3 suspects related to this case, including: Tran Quang Huy (born in 1980), Chairman of the Board of Members and Director, along with Chief Accountant and Head of Technical Department of Mai Son Forestry One Member Co., Ltd.
Through initial investigation, the police agency determined: Mai Son Forestry One Member Co., Ltd. was assigned by the State to manage more than 1,800 hectares of forestry land; of which more than 1,000 hectares were natural forest land. In the process of managing forest land, due to lack of responsibility, lax management and protection of forests, the Company allowed people to illegally cut down, destroy and encroach on timber trees (acacia, eucalyptus) on the area of natural forest land.
From 2020 to 2025, Tran Quang Huy, as Director, directed his subordinates to measure, establish records, sign contracts, and write receipts to rationalize the illegal allocation of forests to 89 people with over 110 hectares to gain illegal profits.
The Investigation Security Agency of Bac Giang Province Police has preliminarily determined that up to now, nearly 1,000 hectares of land with natural forests have been cut down by people and replaced with acacia and eucalyptus trees for timber.
A forest in Vinh Hong village, Luc Son commune (Luc Nam) was cut down by people to plant eucalyptus trees. |
Previously, many inspections and checks had been carried out, but violations continued. The investigation agency also noted the joint responsibility of the forest rangers and local authorities for allowing this situation to occur.
The case is currently under investigation and expansion.
