Bac Ninh: Maintaining quality, building a civilized school environment

On the morning of August 19, more than 25,000 primary school students in Bac Ninh were excited to return to school. This was also the first event for teachers and students of Bac Ninh province, preparing for the new school year 2024-2025, a special school year with many innovations, improving the quality of education, building "green-clean-beautiful-safe" schools, building a civilized and happy school environment.

In the 2024-2025 school year, Bac Ninh province is expected to have more than 133,000 primary school students; more than 86,000 middle school students and more than 46.6 thousand high school students.

Implementing the new school year, along with the whole country, the Bac Ninheducation sector has reviewed, arranged, and planned the network of schools and classes in accordance with local realities; facilities and teaching equipment, and information technology infrastructure continue to receive investment in the direction of standardization and modernization.

Actively welcome the new school year

According to the plan of the People's Committee of Bac Ninh province, first graders will return to school on August 19 at the earliest, the remaining grades will return to school on August 26; schools will simultaneously open and officially start the new school year on September 5.

On August 19, educational institutions in Bac Ninh province welcomed more than 25,000 students to grade 1, equivalent to the number of students in the previous school year. Many schools in the area organized exciting activities, creating an exciting and friendly atmosphere for students, ready to confidently enter grade 1, get acquainted with new teachers, and a new level of education.

Right after the first day of school, the education and training sector of Bac Ninh province directed schools to take advantage of the two weeks before the new school year to establish discipline, organize classroom rules; and guide some games to help students quickly integrate into the new environment with teachers and friends. Thereby forming a quick, bold, confident style; order and discipline, so that students are ready to acquire knowledge right after the first day of school on September 5.

Up to this point, schools in Bac Ninh have completed preparations and are ready to enter the new school year.

Emerging as one of the units with typical quality of mass education and spearhead education, in recent times, Que Vo 2 High School (Que Vo town) has focused on promoting the emulation movement "Good teaching - Good learning", bringing "substantial teaching, substantial learning" more and more deeply, contributing to improving the comprehensive education quality of the school. In the 2023-2024 school year, the number of excellent students and the school's graduation exam results are leading the second group schools in the province.

Mr. Nguyen Van Huan, Principal of Que Vo 2 High School, said: To welcome the new school year, the school has reviewed all facilities such as classrooms, electrical systems, desks and chairs, and equipment for teaching and learning, while also renovating the landscape and environment, creating a comfortable atmosphere for students to return to school and welcome the opening day.

Currently, 100% of classrooms are fully equipped with smart classroom equipment; the school has a multi-purpose hall; a laboratory with three equipment rooms and six practice rooms; a library, basketball and volleyball courts... so that students, in addition to studying and acquiring knowledge, also have time to practice sports and improve their health.

In particular, this school year, grade 12 is the last grade to apply the 2018 general education program into teaching. The school has sent teachers to participate in training, review, register for elective subjects and study topics according to the program to implement appropriate teaching plans - Mr. Nguyen Van Huan added.

At Tran Quoc Toan Primary and Secondary School (Bac Ninh City), in the 2024-2025 school year, the school has prepared 56 classrooms to welcome more than 2,500 students. In particular, the new building with 19 classrooms and 5 auxiliary rooms has just been inaugurated and put into use, contributing to improving the learning and boarding conditions of students in the school.

At the end of the 2023-2024 school year with the theme "Solidarity, discipline, creativity, continuing to innovate in depth, improving the quality of education and training", with the attention of the province and continuous efforts, the education sector of Bac Ninh has overcome many difficulties and achieved many outstanding results.

Bac Ninh maintains its position as one of the leading provinces and cities nationwide in terms of education movement and quality. In particular, the quality of comprehensive education and key education is stable, achieving many positive results.

In the 2024 High School Graduation Exam, Bac Ninh's average score of all subjects ranked 5th out of 63 localities nationwide; the rate of students participating in the National Excellent Student Competition winning prizes ranked 2nd nationwide; 3 students participated in regional and international competitions and all 3 won prizes with one Gold Medal and two Bronze Medals.

In particular, to best prepare students in grades 9 and 12 to achieve good results in the two innovative exams - the entrance exam for grade 10 and the first high school graduation exam according to the 2018 General Education Program, the Department of Education and Training has advised the Provincial People's Committee to submit to the Provincial People's Council a Resolution to implement the project to build schools meeting national standards in the 2024-2030 period to meet integration requirements; ensuring the quantity and quality of the teaching staff to effectively implement the 2018 General Education Program.

At the same time, the whole industry will effectively implement the plan to build "green-clean-beautiful-safe" schools in educational institutions throughout the province, with the goal of building a civilized and happy school environment, in line with the requirements of comprehensive fundamental innovation in education and training in the area.

Timely removal of problems

As an “industrial capital” in the north, Bac Ninh province has been facing population growth in recent years. This has created considerable pressure on local infrastructure systems, including education.

Welcoming the new school year 2024-2025, in addition to preparations for facilities, teaching staff, and professional work, many schools in Bac Ninh province also have difficulties and concerns that need to be resolved soon.

At Yen Phong 1 High School (Yen Phong district), the facilities and classrooms are currently sufficient to meet the teaching and learning needs of 45 classes with more than 2,000 students. However, according to Mr. Nguyen Tien Dinh, the school's principal, the school's biggest difficulty is the narrow campus and small schoolyard, which limits physical education and national defense education activities for students. Sometimes, the school has to borrow a nearby stadium to arrange for students to study physical education.

The Board of Directors of Yen Phong 1 High School hopes that authorities at all levels will soon build a second branch or a new school to meet local teaching needs.

In the 2024-2025 school year, the Ministry of Education and Training requires that primary schools have 35 students per class, but in reality, similar to Hanoi, Hai Phong, Binh Duong... in many schools in Bac Ninh, the number of students in a class is exceeding the prescribed ratio.

Besides, there is a risk of a shortage of teachers compared to the needs of educational institutions and the standards set by the ministry (especially in preschool and primary schools). Although the province has a policy of financial support for teacher contracts, it still does not ensure the stability of the team.

On the other hand, some schools still lack land area, classrooms, functional rooms, and sanitary facilities compared to the requirements and regulations of national standard schools. There is a shortage of schools in concentrated industrial parks, new urban areas, and densely populated areas.

In particular, some schools in the area have deteriorated, greatly affecting the teaching and learning of teachers and students. Meanwhile, the quality of education in some non-public high schools and continuing education centers in the area is still low, some community learning centers are not operating effectively... so they cannot attract students.

It is time for Bac Ninh to review the network, supplement and ensure the scale and number of students, to meet the rapidly increasing learning needs of the people in the province. In particular, prioritizing the budget to invest in building schools and classrooms, especially in areas with industrial parks and densely populated areas; encouraging, developing and expanding public and non-public education.

At the same time, remove difficulties and obstacles in mechanisms, create favorable conditions in terms of facilities, staff and conditions so that education and training can truly be the driving force and resource for rapid and sustainable development.
