Urgently fix landslides
According to the Department of Construction, the recent consecutive storms and rains have caused serious landslides on many national and provincial highways in some locations, hindering people and vehicles from passing through. Typically, Provincial Road 294B through the communes of Quang Trung, Tam Tien, Xuan Luong and Viet Yen and Tu Lan wards has more than 20 landslides with thousands of cubic meters of soil and rock spilling onto the road, obstructing traffic. Of these, there are 3 major landslides in Tam Tien, Xuan Luong and Quang Trung communes.

On Highway 279 through Duong Huu and An Lac communes, there are landslides causing the road surface to collapse. In particular, the recent storm No. 10 caused Highway 279 to have 18 more landslides of soil and rock onto the road surface in the communes of Duong Huu, An Lac, and An Chau with a volume of more than 1,500 m3; eroding the roadside at 13 locations. Similarly, on Highway 31, there are 72 landslides with more than 5,500 m3 of soil and rock spilling onto the road in the communes of Bien Dong, An Chau, Son Dong, Yen Dinh, and Van Son...
The Provincial People's Committee determined that landslides and subsidence caused by storms and rains, if not handled promptly, could affect infrastructure and not ensure people's safety, so it directed departments, branches and localities to consider overcoming the consequences of storms as a key task. With the synchronous participation of the Provincial People's Committee, the Department of Construction, contractors and people, by early October, landslides had been cleared, people could travel again, only a few local points remained that needed to be thoroughly handled. |
It is known that, immediately after the storm, the Department of Construction directly inspected the scene and established an emergency recovery plan. The Department directed the Bac Ninh Road Maintenance Management Board and Bac Giang Road Joint Stock Company to focus on clearing the filled soil, clearing the flow, and ensuring drainage on the route. Workers, excavators, and bulldozers were mobilized to work continuously. The contractor has cleared most of the soil and rock spilled onto the road surface. The Provincial People's Committee has issued a decision to declare an emergency situation and an order to urgently repair and overcome the consequences of natural disasters, ensuring traffic safety on National Highway 279, section Km 37-Km 55, through Duong Huu and An Lac communes. At this time, the contractor is focusing on speeding up the construction progress of reinforcing the negative slope with shaped steel piles, cement concrete gravity retaining walls combined with reinforced stone gabions, and covering the slope with reinforced concrete... The project is expected to be completed before October 30.
On National Highway 31, Provincial Roads 291, 292C, 293, the construction unit leveled soil and rocks, opened temporary drainage ditches, and avoided flooding during heavy rains. This restoration was done promptly, helping to prevent the risk of prolonged traffic congestion. Mr. Hoang Van Cong, Deputy Director of the Bac Ninh Road Maintenance Management Board, said that immediately after the storm, workers of the maintenance unit worked continuously, including holidays, to fix landslides, trying to complete the basic work as soon as possible. Despite the large volume of soil and rocks, up to this point, all landslides have been cleared, ensuring smooth and safe traffic.
Resolutely implement solutions
The Provincial People's Committee determined that landslides and subsidence caused by storms and rains, if not handled promptly, could affect infrastructure and not ensure people's safety, so it directed departments, branches and localities to consider overcoming the consequences of storms as a key task. First of all, focus on the main roads serving people's lives and production. At the inspection of the construction progress of emergency works to repair and overcome the consequences of natural disasters and ensure traffic safety on National Highway 279 at the end of August, Mr. Vuong Quoc Tuan, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, emphasized that the contractor must urgently construct, technical solutions need to be invested in thoroughly and solidly, avoiding temporary "firefighting" situations. In the process of overcoming landslides, the Department of Construction, construction units and specialized agencies closely coordinated to come up with optimal solutions, speed up progress, ensure labor safety, improve the quality and sustainability of the works, and prevent recurrence.

Like National Highway 279, the province has declared an emergency situation and ordered urgent construction to overcome the consequences of natural disasters for major landslides on Provincial Road 294B and Road DH.84 in Luc Ngan and Bien Dong communes, and at the same time arranged a standing force ready to handle the situation. In the long term, the province will calculate investment plans to upgrade infrastructure on routes regularly affected by natural disasters.
Following the direction of the province, the Department of Construction focused on synchronously implementing solutions to clear the flow, clear soil and rocks, ensure temporary traffic; repair road surfaces, reinforce slopes and drainage ditches at key points. At the same time, strengthen inspection and warning at potential landslide risk points to regulate traffic. The representative of the Department of Construction said that not only simply restoring after the storm, the Department also required maintenance units and contractors to implement long-term solutions in parallel, avoiding patchwork repairs.
With the synchronous participation of the Provincial People's Committee, the Department of Construction, contractors and the People, by early October, the landslides had been cleared, people's traffic had returned, only a few local points needed to be thoroughly handled. For urgent construction sites, the Department of Construction is urging to speed up the progress to complete the project as planned.
