On the afternoon of the 4th day of the Lunar New Year (February 13), Bai Sau beach, more than 3 km long, was crowded with visitors coming to swim and stroll.

On Thuy Van street, cars lined up one after another, sometimes causing congestion. Parking lots on both sides of the street were packed.

In the first days of the year, Vung Tau beach was affected by the Northeast monsoon at level 6, 7, gusting to level 8, 9. As the afternoon progressed, the tide rose higher, the waves grew bigger, making the bathing and playing space for tourists narrower.

A group of family tourists from Binh Duong frolic in the big waves.

Ms. Le Thu, a member of the group, said that the waves were constantly strong and sometimes she was swept away. She had swum in Vung Tau many times, but this was the first time she encountered such big waves, so she only swam near the sea wall for a while and then went back up.

A group of friends sat on the steps leading down to the beach, enjoying the big waves splashing water on them.

Standing on the embankment filming a video of the beach, Ms. Doan Hoai Phuong said she and her relatives from Ho Chi Minh City came to visit the beach for two days. The waves were too big so she was afraid to go into the water. "Vung Tau is cool. I came to recharge my batteries for a year with many plans, the biggest of which is getting married," said the 27-year-old female tourist.

The sea level rose in the afternoon, big waves near the embankment, so the business of selling umbrellas and chairs on the sand was affected. A homeowner took advantage of the path up and down the beach to arrange chairs for customers to sit on.

Vung Tau City arranges free fresh water showers along the beach to serve tourists.

Lifeguards used loudspeakers to ask visitors not to swim far from shore or enter areas with whirlpools or currents.

Vung Tau City mobilized 38 lifeguards and 2 canoes to stand guard at the beach to assist tourists. During Tet, they rescued 5 people who fell into whirlpools while swimming in the sea.

As the afternoon progresses, the walking paths along the beach and in the park become more crowded with visitors.

According to the report of the Vung Tau City Tourist Management and Support Center, from February 8 (December 29 of the lunar calendar) to February 13, there were about 255,000 tourists swimming in the sea, of which on the 4th day of Tet there were more than 115,000.
