On May 8, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment coordinated with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Yen Bai provincial government to organize a ceremony to hand over new houses and provide emergency aid to people affected by super typhoon Yagi (typhoon No. 3) in Yen Bai city and Yen Binh district.
In Yen Ninh ward (Yen Bai city), Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Nguyen Hoang Hiep, together with Ms. Ramla Khalidi - UNDP Resident Representative in Vietnam and ADB representative visited and handed over a new house to Ms. Bui Thi Tap - an elderly person with a serious illness, belonging to a poor household.

Ms. Xi's old house was completely collapsed due to landslides after Typhoon Yagi in 2024. Thanks to support from the Korean Government through UNDP, Ms. Xi has a safe home ahead of this year's flood season.
On the same day, in Tan Huong commune (Yen Binh district), a working delegation led by Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Hiep directly distributed emergency aid to 67 households severely affected by storms and floods.

The aid package funded by ADB has a total value of more than 212 million VND, each household receives from 2.1 to 3.5 million VND depending on the number of people and the level of damage.
The selection of beneficiaries is carried out publicly and transparently, with priority given to poor and near-poor households, the elderly, single women, people with disabilities, ethnic minorities, and households that have lost their homes or production land.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Hiep said that the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment is committed to continuing to coordinate with international organizations to provide the most practical support to households affected by natural disasters.
According to the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment), immediately after storm No. 3 (Yagi), the international community pledged more than 22 million USD in aid to Vietnam.
UNDP is currently implementing emergency aid projects in Yen Bai, Lao Cai, Cao Bang and Thai Nguyen with a total budget of over US$1 million, including the construction and repair of 123 houses, cash distribution to nearly 4,000 people, livelihood support for 15 cooperatives, and the completion of 10 public works to improve local disaster prevention capacity.
As planned, on May 9, the working group will continue to Bac Ha district (Lao Cai province) to inspect the progress of housing reconstruction in Nam Khanh commune - one of the areas heavily damaged by storm Yagi.
