Concerns about forest fire fighting

In the last months of the dry season, a number of forest fires occurred in the province with quite large areas of damage, including production forests and special-use forests. In fact, when forest fires occurred, following the 4-on-the-spot principle, localities where forest fires occurred mobilized local forces and means to extinguish the fires. In production forests, when fires broke out, forest owners and local authorities were active in fire fighting.

Strengthening drills and training on forest fire prevention and fighting measures to raise public awareness is essential.
Strengthening drills and training on forest fire prevention and fighting measures to raise public awareness is essential.

However, with special-use forests and protective forests under the management of provincial authorities, when forest fires occur, will people participate in timely rescue like in production forests owned by themselves?

Not only us, but many people have expressed concern when recently, in a mountainous commune of the province, more than 10 hectares of special-use forest were damaged after a forest fire broke out. Many people wondered whether local people responded to the fire during the fire suppression process and with what spirit and attitude did they respond that the fire still broke out and caused damage over such a large area.

According to the local authorities, immediately after discovering the forest fire, local people enthusiastically participated in extinguishing the fire. However, those who participated in extinguishing the fire were only local people of the hamlet or commune where the forest area was burned, and there was no rescue from people in neighboring communes. Even when the fire was extinguished, many households in neighboring communes did not know that a large forest fire had just occurred in the locality. They only focused on their family's production and business.

Protective forests and special-use forests are very valuable “assets”, contributing to preserving the land and water of the homeland, so they need to be protected and preserved. When these forest areas are burned, it will affect the ecosystem and living environment of the people. Therefore, the process of forest fire fighting, along with the efforts of local authorities and local people, really needs the support of people in neighboring communes. Only when we consider forests as common assets, will the work of forest fire fighting, although difficult, still not stop the enthusiasm and responsibility of all people in the district.

Accordingly, localities with production forests, protective forests, and special-use forests should also increase the organization of more drills and training courses on forest fire prevention and fighting for people so that they have quick reflexes and skills to handle forest fires most effectively...
