At 1:00 a.m. on April 21, 1975, our army launched the final attack on Xuan Loc. The entire 18th Division and Long Khanh Sub-region of the enemy had withdrawn from Xuan Loc by 10:00 p.m. on April 20.
On Provincial Road No. 2, our 41st Company intercepted the remaining enemy troops, capturing hundreds of them, including Colonel Pham Van Phuc, Governor of Long Khanh Province.
At 8:00 a.m. the same day, the Saigon government army in Long Khanh fled. The enemy's last line of defense in Xuan Loc was destroyed, the liberation army's gateway to Saigon was opened. Xuan Loc town and Long Khanh province were completely liberated.
At the end of the campaign, we had heavily damaged the 18th Division, the 1st Airborne Brigade, destroyed the 52nd Battalion (18th Division), damaged the 5th Regiment and the 3rd Armored Brigade, killed and captured thousands of enemies, seized dozens of cars and thousands of guns of all kinds, and destroyed 42 tanks and armored vehicles.

On April 21, 1975, Division 10, Corps 3 arrived at the assembly point in Cu Chi, preparing to participate in the campaign to liberate Saigon.
At 8:00 p.m. the same day, the 3rd Corps Command ordered units to cross the Saigon River. On the same day, the Standing Committee of the 3rd Corps Party Committee issued a directive "On the political work of the Ho Chi Minh Campaign" identifying the main contents of the campaign as a basis for units and agencies to deploy and successfully complete the attack mission on the main direction in this historic strategic decisive battle.
Also on April 21, 1975, the Ho Chi Minh Campaign Artillery Commander reported to the Campaign Command the plan for using artillery. Accordingly, as of April 20, 1975, our artillery force participating in the campaign had 55 battalions, 789 guns, arranged into 30 clusters including 3 campaign artillery clusters, 6 corps artillery clusters, 12 divisional artillery clusters, and 9 infantry regiment artillery clusters. Each deep penetration corps had at least 2 artillery companies of 85 and 122 or 105 mm.
In Saigon, in front of 200 high-ranking officials, Nguyen Van Thieu, after strongly criticizing the US for breaking its promise and abandoning its allies to the communists, announced his resignation, handing over power to Vice President Tran Van Huong. Tran Van Huong took over in the context of the internal situation of the Saigon ruling class being in great turmoil and the American evacuation campaign being vigorously promoted at an increasing pace.
