This activity is part of the project "Developing traffic infrastructure and improving pedestrian safety", approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee in 2015 and expected to end in 2025.
The project aims to provide technical assistance, training and resources to reduce traffic accidents, especially those involving pedestrians - the most vulnerable group on the road.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction Nguyen Thanh Loi said that the City Traffic Safety Committee in coordination with the Department of Transport and Public Works (now the Department of Construction) has implemented many solutions to develop infrastructure, organize reasonable traffic and improve travel conditions for pedestrians.
Key activities include building shelter islands on large-section roads (nearly 323 locations), renovating bus stations to facilitate passenger access (210 locations), raising pedestrian crossings (59 locations), and building safe school areas (455 locations).
These efforts help reduce pedestrian-related accidents, contribute to maintaining traffic safety and order, and improve urban aesthetics.

According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Loi, over the past 10 years, the above solutions have received high appreciation from international partners and the Bloomberg Foundation, contributing to raising public awareness of traffic safety.
Successful models such as shelter islands, pedestrian crossings, and student safety zones have helped protect pedestrians, especially students, while promoting sustainable urban development.
However, there are still some solutions based on international experience, especially speed management, that have not received widespread consensus from city authorities.

This training program aims to increase public interest and awareness of traffic safety measures.
WRI experts presented key topics such as speed management, safe bicycle infrastructure, and safe access to metro stations, thereby conveying new solutions to promote action and change the behavior of traffic participants.
The training session is also an opportunity for journalists to exchange and update the latest information, contributing to improving the effectiveness of communication work on traffic safety.
Through this, Ho Chi Minh City hopes to raise public awareness and promote practical actions to reduce accidents and protect people's lives. Close coordination between authorities, international organizations and the community is the key to building a safe, civilized and sustainable traffic environment.
