On the evening of May 22, on the stage of the Music Awards Japan (MAJ) 2025 held at the most luxurious theater in Japan: ROHM Theater Kyoto, the MAJ 2025 Organizing Committee officially announced and awarded the International Special Awards to artists from 6 countries: Vietnam, China, Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines.
This award is a collaboration between CEIPA and prestigious music awards from 6 countries in Asia. MAJ honors songs and artists who have won the Best Song award, or equivalent major award in their country.
Presenting the special award was Mr. Shunichi Tokura, composer and Commissioner of the Ministry of Culture of Japan. Mr. Shunichi Tokura said: "This award is in line with one of the main goals of MAJ to bring Asian culture, arts and music to the world stage. As mentioned, we have collaborated with 6 Asian countries and MAJ further recognizes the artists who have won outstanding awards in their respective categories."

The six names were announced in turn: God of Music by Seventeen from Korea/MAMA Awards; Chau Tham with Shao Guan Wo (Watch Ur Manners) from China/Tencent Music Entertainment Awards; Jeff Satur with Ghost from Thailand/TOTY Music Awards; Salma Salsabil with Bunga Hati from Indonesia/AMI Awards; singer Tung Duong with Rebirth from Vietnam/Dedication Awards and Lola Amour with Raining in Manila from the Philippines/AWIT Awards.

On the stage of the Music Awards Japan 2025, Tung Duong spoke before singing a part of the song "A Round of Vietnam": "Hello everyone. I am very honored to be standing here, it is music that has brought us closer together at the awards ceremony tonight. Throughout my more than 20-year career, I have used music to share my thoughts and ideologies. I would like to thank MAJ for recognizing my music. I must say that I am very proud to be the first Vietnamese artist to receive this great award. Finally, I would like to thank the Sports & Culture Newspaper/Vietnam News Agency. My gratitude also goes to my family, my wife and children, the crew and all the fans. Today is also a new beginning for my music career."

When Tung Duong sang: " Get up with me, let's travel with me/ Travel around Vietnam/ Look at the mountains and rivers, the land of literature and martial arts/ Come with me, let's travel 'round Vietnam ", the artists and audience present in the auditorium gave him endless applause.

On his personal page, Tung Duong wrote: "Wearing the Vietnamese ao dai to enjoy the moments of honoring the "International Special Awards" - Music Awards Japan 2025. Just to feel overwhelmed and want to shout out loud: I am proud to be Vietnamese".

Many colleagues and fans congratulated Tung Duong on receiving an international award in Japan.
The Japan Music Awards are organized and operated by the Culture & Entertainment Industries Promotion Association (CEIPA) of Japan. (CEIPA is an association jointly established by five major organizations in the Japanese music industry - including record companies, artist management companies, music publishers and concert organizers.) The Music Awards Japan 2025 voting committee consists of more than 5,000 music industry professionals, including artists, producers, record label employees, critics, journalists, publishers and international judges.

The International Special Awards is a category established through the cooperation between CEIPA and music award organizations from 6 countries: Vietnam, China, Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines. In Vietnam, as announced, MAJ has decided to cooperate with the Organizing Committee of the Dedication Awards of the Sports and Culture Newspaper/Vietnam News Agency. On March 5, 2025, Mr. Taro Kumabe, Executive Director of the 2025 Japan Music Awards Committee, also attended the 2025 Dedication Awards Ceremony in Hanoi. According to the cooperation agreement, in 2026, the Dedication Awards will also honor Japanese artists on the award stage in Vietnam.
To kick off the cooperation, the Organizing Committee of Music Awards Japan 2025 (MAJ 2025) and the Organizing Committee of the Devotion Music Awards 2025 of the Sports and Culture Newspaper/Vietnam News Agency have completely agreed on the decision to select and honor singer Tung Duong in the International Special Awards category for the first time.
Previously, MAJ 2025 established a partnership with the Dedication Award of the Sports and Culture Newspaper (VNA). From this cooperation, the Dedication Award Organizing Committee participates as a voting member of this award, and will annually coordinate with the partner CEIPA to introduce a Vietnamese artist to CEIPA to present the International Special Awards at the Japan Music Awards. And this year, Tung Duong is the first Vietnamese artist to "open" this award.
