According to quick statistics from the Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Control and Search and Rescue, by the morning of May 23, floods had broken and buried nearly 2 hectares of corn, spring rice and 0.6 hectares of cinnamon trees in Vo Lao and Nam Ma communes (Van Ban district); swept away 0.4 hectares of fish ponds of people in Tri Quang commune (Bao Thang)...

Due to the influence of the low pressure trough with an axis through the North, combined with the high-altitude wind convergence zone, from the night of May 22 to the morning of May 23, the province experienced moderate rain, heavy rain and very heavy rain. Rainfall measured at some monitoring stations was as follows: Phong Hai (Bao Thang) 130.4 mm; Phong Nien (Bao Thang) 108 mm; Nam Chay (Van Ban) 125 mm; Viet Tien (Bao Yen) 112.6 mm; Coc Lau (Bac Ha) 111.6 mm; Muong Hoa (Sa Pa) 91.4 mm. Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and whirlwinds caused some damage to traffic infrastructure and agricultural production in some localities in the province.

According to quick information from Van Ban, Bao Thang, Bat Xat districts, Sa Pa town and Lao Cai city, heavy rains and floods have caused localized flooding and landslides on traffic routes such as: National Highway 4E, Provincial Road 161 (Lao Cai city to Bao Thang district), National Highway 4D (Lao Cai city to Sa Pa town); some localized flooding and landslides caused traffic jams on the morning of May 23.

In Van Ban district, floods caused landslides on rural roads in Nam Chay and Nam Ma communes (the road from the center of Nam Ma commune to Ta Chu had a 25 m landslide; the road from the center to Nam Trang residential area had a 15 m landslide, completely cutting off traffic).

In Y Ty commune, Bat Xat district, a large flood from upstream swept away an iron bridge on Sim San stream, cutting off traffic to three villages: Sim San 1, Sim San 2, and Hong Ngai.

In Lao Cai city, heavy rain caused localized flooding on some roads such as Tran Hung Dao extension, Le Thanh, Cau Xum... affecting people's traffic.

Regarding damage to agricultural and aquatic production, according to quick statistics as of the morning of May 23, floods have broken and buried nearly 2 hectares of corn, spring rice and 0.6 hectares of cinnamon trees in Vo Lao and Nam Ma communes (Van Ban district); swept away 0.4 hectares of fish ponds of people in Tri Quang commune (Bao Thang).

It is known that immediately after the flood, the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Van Ban, Bao Thang, Bat Xat districts and Sa Pa town directed specialized agencies, People's Committees of communes and towns to organize inspections and statistics of damage; directed local forces to help households overcome damage, and at the same time organize to fix landslides on traffic routes to ensure traffic in step 1.
