As a full-time delegate and a person closely involved in local realities, Ms. Trinh Thi Tu Anh - National Assembly Delegation of Lam Dong province - shared with Lam Dong Online Newspaper about the role, mission and expectations for the press, especially the local press in maintaining political courage, spreading positive values, reflecting the aspirations of the people and accompanying the development of the homeland.

- Reporter: Dear delegate, in the current era of digital transformation and information explosion, in your opinion, what should revolutionary press do to maintain its political stance and not be swept away by the "whirlwind" of false and distorted information?

- National Assembly Delegate Trinh Thi Tu Anh: Yes, this is a big challenge but also a key task of revolutionary journalism in the current context.

To maintain political courage and not be swept away by the "whirlwind" of false and distorted information, I think the press needs to focus on three main pillars: First, improve the political and professional qualifications of the press team. This is a prerequisite. Each journalist must truly understand the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws. Once they have a firm political courage, they will have the necessary "filter" to identify information, distinguish right from wrong, and avoid being led by toxic information streams. This is accompanied by the constant improvement of professional skills, information verification skills, multi-dimensional analysis, and the use of technology to trace the source of information. Second, promote the role of information orientation and proactive struggle. Revolutionary press cannot passively follow information but must proactively take the lead in providing authentic, objective, and comprehensive information on current issues. When there is false or distorted information, the press needs to quickly and promptly refute it with sharp, scientifically based and highly convincing arguments. This requires acumen and the ability to deeply analyze to expose the nature of false arguments and protect the Party's ideological foundation. Third, strongly innovate the way of transmission to increase appeal and spread. In the digital age, only reporting dry news will find it difficult to compete with other information streams. The press needs to apply modern technology, diversify forms of expression such as infographics, videos, podcasts, data journalism, etc. to make official information more vivid, easy to understand, easy to access and more widely spread, especially among young people. High-quality content and attractive presentation will help the official press affirm its position and build "resistance" for the public against toxic information.

- People's trust in the press is the core. So, according to the delegate, what are the core factors that help the press become a reliable source of information for the public?

Trust is journalism's most valuable asset, and to maintain it, I believe there are four core elements journalism needs to focus on:

First and foremost are objectivity and truth. The press must always respect the truth, reflecting the true nature of the problem without embellishing or distorting. All information provided must be thoroughly verified, have clear grounds, and avoid speculation or emotion. When the public sees that the press always tells the truth, whether it is good news or bad news, they will have absolute trust.

Second is humanity and social responsibility. The press must not only report news but also show understanding and sympathy for the thoughts and aspirations of the people, especially those in difficult circumstances and pressing social issues. Timely and responsible reflection of these issues, while contributing to finding solutions, will make the public feel that the press is truly their companion and voice.

Third is professionalism. Journalism needs to demonstrate professionalism in every step, from information gathering, processing, editing to presentation. Professionalism is demonstrated in the ability to analyze deeply, providing multi-dimensional, unbiased perspectives.

Finally, the ability to interact and listen to the public. In the digital age, the press cannot be a one-way information channel. The press needs to actively listen to readers' feedback, accept comments, and even admit mistakes and correct them if they are wrong. Two-way interaction and a willingness to learn will help the press build a strong, trusting relationship with the public.

- As someone working in the legislative field and closely connected to the locality, according to you, what role should the local press play in conveying the breath of life and reflecting the thoughts and aspirations of the people?

I realize that local press plays a very important role, even has its own advantages in conveying the breath of life, reflecting the thoughts and aspirations of the people.

The first role is to reflect the grassroots life truthfully and deeply. Local press has the advantage of being close to and having a deep understanding of the cultural, economic and social characteristics of each region and each community. This helps journalists easily access and record the most authentic stories about daily life, production, effective economic models, traditional cultural beauty, or even the difficulties and challenges that people are facing. From there, local press can convey the "breath of life" in a vivid and colorful way.

The second is to act as an effective bridge between the Party, the government and the people. The local press is the official information channel to convey the policies of the province and the district to the people in the most timely and understandable way. At the same time, the press must also be a channel to receive and reflect the thoughts, aspirations and recommendations of the people to the leaders at all levels.

Third is to discover and spread advanced examples and good values of the locality. Local press needs to focus on exploiting examples of good people, good deeds, good initiatives, and breakthroughs in economic and social development and new rural construction. Spreading these stories not only creates motivation and inspiration but also contributes to building the image, promoting the potential and values of the locality to friends at home and abroad.

Finally, local press needs to proactively combat negativity and corruption at the grassroots level. With their understanding of the local area, local journalists are able to detect early and effectively combat issues that cause public concern, contributing to building a clean and healthy social environment and promoting sustainable local development.

- The new era brings many opportunities but also poses many challenges. What do you expect from today's generation of young journalists in inheriting and promoting the mission of revolutionary journalism?

The new era is truly a promising period but also contains many challenges for journalists, especially the young generation. I hope that today's young generation of journalists will inherit and promote the mission of revolutionary journalism.

First, be sensitive to technology and proactively innovate. The young generation born and raised in a digital environment has a distinct advantage in accessing and applying new technology to journalism, constantly exploring and creating in the way of expression, from mastering AI in data processing, producing multimedia content, to effectively exploiting social networking platforms. This is a key factor for revolutionary journalism to reach a wide audience, especially young people.

Second, maintain political courage, professional ethics and a spirit of dedication. Although technology is a tool, political courage and professional ethics are the guiding principles. In the context of chaotic information, young people need to have a "cool head" to analyze and verify and a "warm heart" to maintain the flame of enthusiasm, bravely face challenges, not afraid of difficulties to delve into reality and discover the truth. A spirit of dedication, not afraid of hardship to have quality, in-depth journalistic works will be what makes the difference.

Third, promote critical thinking, in-depth knowledge and creative ability. Revolutionary journalism does not stop at reflecting reality but also contributes to creating the future. This requires young journalists to have sharp critical thinking, the ability to analyze problems in depth, and more importantly, to provide suggestions, ideas, and connect resources to solve problems together and promote development.

-Thank you very much for your sharing.
