In 2025, Vietnam's revolutionary press will turn 100 years old - an important milestone, marking a glorious historical journey, closely associated with the birth, growth and development of the Communist Party of Vietnam .
Throughout that journey, under the leadership of the Party, and directly President Ho Chi Minh - the great teacher of Vietnam's revolutionary press - the press force has always played a pioneering role on the ideological and cultural front, making great contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation.
Speaking at the 9th National Press Awards Ceremony on Party Building - Golden Hammer and Sickle Award, held on January 20, 2025, General Secretary To Lam emphasized: In recent times, the press has done a very good job of propagating and widely disseminating the Party's major policies and orientations on the "New Era", on the streamlining of the political system, as well as the determination to remove "bottlenecks" that are hindering the country's development.

The press, as a bridge, not only conveys the policies of the Party and State to businesses and people, but is also a forum for businesses and people to express their aspirations and difficulties so that the Party and Government can know and resolve them, contributing to improving the effectiveness of management and operation for mutual development.
The press has conveyed information from macro to micro, reflecting the multi-dimensional breath of life, promptly updating economic and social information. Through the press, businesses have information, perception, evaluation, analysis to make decisions. Therefore, newspapers are increasingly becoming indispensable friends of the business community and entrepreneurs in the process of business development. Businesses are also an important resource to help the press maintain operations and develop content and quality. This demonstrates the close and important relationship between the press and businesses; the companionship and mutual support relationship helps businesses and newspapers develop together and enhance their reputation.
During its 100-year development journey, the Vietnamese revolutionary press has always played an important role in promoting, monitoring and accompanying the Vietnamese economy through historical periods. From calling for self-reliance during the war, promoting innovation to reflecting global economic trends, the press has always accompanied the country's development.
In the context of the country entering a “new era” and celebrating the 100th anniversary of Vietnam’s revolutionary press day, a group of reporters from VietnamPlus e-newspaper has published a series of articles “Press and businesses: Joining hands to create development drivers” to emphasize the accompanying role of the press in conveying and disseminating the mechanisms and policies of the Party and State to promote the development of the business community and entrepreneurs.

Lesson 1: Press: Policy channel, economic flow clearing
In the multi-dimensional and complex flow of information in the digital age, the Vietnamese press has constantly affirmed its role as a solid pillar, a vital channel in communicating policies, orienting public opinion and accompanying the country's socio-economic development.
With its mission of being a bridge of reliable information, a forum for multilateral dialogue and a sharp tool for social monitoring, the press is making an increasingly important contribution to the construction of a civilized, transparent, integrated and sustainable economy, especially in the context of the country entering a new stage of development with many intertwined opportunities and challenges.
Policy bridge from management agency to business
Over nearly four decades of Renovation, the press has proven to be an indispensable force, an official and reliable information channel, taking on the role of a quick and effective bridge, bringing the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws to all classes of people and the business community.
From the Party's strategic-oriented Resolutions, fundamental laws such as the Enterprise Law, Investment Law, to new-generation free trade agreements (FTAs) (such as EVFTA, CPTPP, etc.), the press has performed excellently in interpreting, analyzing, clarifying, helping businesses grasp promptly, understand deeply, and thereby build appropriate production and business strategies and plans, proactively seize opportunities and effectively respond to challenges.

Mr. Nguyen Van Viet, Chairman of the Vietnam Beer-Alcohol-Beverage Association (VBA), emphasized: “From the perspective of an organization representing an industry with many specific characteristics, we consider the role of the press to be extremely important and indispensable in conveying, interpreting and disseminating legal policies related to the beer-alcohol-beverage industry. The rich, abundant and timely source of updated information from press channels about newly issued policies is regularly looked up and read by VBA and businesses, especially analytical and in-depth articles about new regulations, impacts, challenges as well as business opportunities, which are very useful for readers who are businesses in the beverage industry.
"Policies such as the Law on Prevention of Harmful Effects of Alcohol, regulations on special consumption tax, food safety, advertising, promotions, etc. all have a direct impact on the production and business activities of enterprises in the industry. The official press promptly provides information while reflecting multiple perspectives from relevant parties, helping member enterprises access policies in a transparent manner and be more proactive in adjusting business strategies. The press not only plays a one-way role in transmitting information but also acts as a bridge between enterprises - policy makers - consumers, thereby contributing to creating a more stable, predictable and fair business environment," Mr. Viet further analyzed.

Forum with multi-dimensional voices
The press does not stop at publishing information, but also organizes forums, seminars, conducts in-depth analysis series, interviews leading economic experts, leaders of ministries, sectors and representatives of the business community.
At multi-dimensional discussion forums, the voices of businesses, experts and managers are heard and respected. There, businesses can directly dialogue with policy makers, frankly express practical difficulties and problems, and contribute heartfelt and constructive recommendations to clarify policy content, analyze impacts from multiple perspectives and propose feasible implementation solutions, helping policies quickly enter economic life.

Mr. Khuat Quang Hung (Nestlé Vietnam) shared that, through reflecting the practical operations of enterprises, the press helps management agencies have a more comprehensive view of the challenges that enterprises are facing, thereby making appropriate adjustments in policies and legal regulations.
Regarding this issue, Mr. Dau Anh Tuan, Standing Committee Member, Deputy General Secretary of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), emphasized that every day and every hour, there are many news reports and articles published and written about laws and policies. It is clear that the press helps shorten the distance between the parliament and the people, and is a channel to bring policies into life. On the contrary, policy makers also know the flow of real life through the press, there have been articles that can affect even the highest levels, changing major policies.
“The press is the most suitable place to detect shortcomings in business practices, from which the business community proposes initiatives to amend or build new policies and laws to meet practical requirements. Information published in the press not only conveys information but also helps initiate policy actions from state agencies. There are many examples from the abolition of many business licenses, business conditions or the process of reforming administrative procedures, the press always plays an important role,” said Mr. Tuan.

Mr. Tuan acknowledged that the press is an important channel to disseminate ideas, draft policies and laws on a large scale, "alerting" businesses and the community about ideas, draft policies and laws that may affect their operations so that businesses and the community are interested in giving comments on the drafts or at least preparing for their future business plans.
A popular workshop or consultation has at most a few hundred participants, but through the press, it can reach hundreds of thousands, millions of people. Because the press can be considered a forum for multi-dimensional exchanges on draft policies and laws between businesses, between businesses and different sectors, mobilizing the intelligence of society in the process of building economic policies and laws. Consulting on economic policies and laws is not just about seeking opinions from a few businesses, units, and individuals on the drafts, it is an activity to bring "breath" of life into policies, legislation, and regulations, a way to improve knowledge, increase the interest of businesses and people in policies and laws, and prepare for the implementation process. To do this, the consultation must be carried out widely and in many ways.
A popular seminar or opinion gathering has at most a few hundred attendees, but through the press it can reach hundreds of thousands or millions of people.
Mr. Dau Anh Tuan analyzed that when reaching many people, it is clear that the press is a useful tool to create public opinion and pressure for policy and law drafting agencies to be careful and receptive in receiving opinions from businesses and the community, and conveying these opinions into the content of related policies and laws.
“While the voices or proposals of a few businesses or associations can be easily ignored, widespread discussions on draft policies in the press and public opinion created from information provided in the press have a power that policy-making agencies must pay attention to. This has been demonstrated in many recent cases. Unreasonable regulations on business conditions, many newly issued decrees and circulars have been withdrawn or postponed due to pressure from public opinion and the press,” Mr. Tuan emphasized.

Promote an equal environment for business development
From the perspective of the business community, the role of the press in monitoring and social criticism is not only highly appreciated but also has great expectations. The press has truly become an effective tool to help promote the political system to take more drastic action, contributing to reducing the situation of "hot above, cold below" and is a sharp weapon in the fight against corruption, authoritarianism, negativity, and cleaning up the business environment.
News articles that promptly and objectively reflect the difficulties and obstacles that businesses face due to delays, indifference, lack of responsibility or inconsistent, even arbitrary policy explanations by some agencies and localities have created strong and healthy public pressure.
From the perspective of the business community, the role of the press in monitoring and social criticism is not only highly appreciated but also has great expectations.
More importantly, when this information was published in the media, it quickly attracted the attention of higher-level leaders, thereby promoting the process of examining, directing and resolving the problem fundamentally and thoroughly. Many cases of businesses being "tortured" by cumbersome and complicated administrative procedures, unreasonable "sub-licenses" or overlapping and contradictory regulations, after being persistently and responsibly reported by the press, have received strong direction from the Government and ministries to resolve them. Frequent reflections on barriers to VAT refunds, access to preferential loans, or inadequacies in planning... have created positive pressure, forcing authorities to listen and make policy adjustments more suitable to reality.
Mr. Nguyen Van Viet (VBA) shared: "It can be affirmed that the press is completely capable of creating enough social pressure to push the authorities to intervene more quickly and decisively - especially in issues related to counterfeit goods, trade fraud or shortcomings in the policy implementation process. When an issue is reflected objectively, multi-dimensionally and timely by the press, the pressure comes not only from public opinion but also from the demand for transparency and accountability - this forces the parties involved to act more responsibly."

Moreover, the press has been and is one of the most effective tools for social monitoring. When negative, corrupt, and wasteful cases are investigated and exposed by dedicated and courageous journalists, they have created a great resonance in society, forcing the authorities to investigate and handle them strictly according to the law, without any forbidden areas or exceptions. A series of investigative articles on violations in land management, ineffective public investment projects that cause great losses, or recently major economic and corruption cases that have shocked public opinion (such as the Viet A case, the rescue flight, Van Thinh Phat...) all play a very important initial and consistent role in information from the mainstream press.
The publicity and transparency of the investigation, prosecution and trial process not only demonstrates the strictness of the law but also has a strong deterrent effect and prevents negativity. This has contributed to cleaning up the government apparatus, reducing troubles and harassment for businesses, creating motivation and peace of mind for legitimate businesses when they know that unfair competition, competitors who rely on "relationships" or "grease" to gain profits will be brought to justice.
Mr. Nguyen Van Viet emphasized: “In order for policies to truly come into life and avoid the situation of 'hot above, cold below', listening to the voices of businesses - the subjects directly implementing policies - is extremely important. We have recorded many cases where, when the press gets involved, recommendations from the Association and businesses are received more quickly, creating positive feedback from the authorities. Regarding expectations, we hope that the press will continue to promote its role as an objective 'policy bridge', based on actual data and the voices of insiders. A very specific example is that during the process of collecting opinions and discussing the Draft Law on Special Consumption Tax, thanks to the timely support of many mainstream press agencies, opinions, analysis and expert data, international experiences, and practical observations from businesses have been fully and objectively conveyed to the public and policy makers. In fact, a number of National Assembly deputies later spoke up at discussion forums, showing acceptance of information reflected by the press"./.
