On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025), Head of the Central Propaganda Department of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party Khamphanh Pheuyavong gave an exclusive interview to a VNA reporter in Laos about his profound views on the role of revolutionary journalism in the new era, especially in the face of strong changes in global technology and media.
The Head of the Lao Central Propaganda Department affirmed that the Vietnamese revolutionary press has gone through a glorious journey, accompanying the nation in the cause of national liberation, unification and building socialism.
From the years of fighting against colonialism and imperialism to the period of renovation and international integration, revolutionary press has always been a vanguard force on the ideological and cultural front.

In the current situation, when the world is entering the era of the 4th industrial revolution with the remarkable development of digital technology , artificial intelligence (AI), big data, social networks and internet of things (IoT), Vietnamese revolutionary journalism continues to face great opportunities and challenges.
According to Mr. Khamphanh Pheuyavong, the transformation of technology has been profoundly changing the way we access information, media behavior and the role of journalists.
In that context, the press is not only an information channel but also an integrated platform, transmitting multi-dimensional, multimedia content.
AI and smart technologies offer opportunities for journalists to accelerate their information production processes, optimize content, personalize reader experiences, and expand reach.
However, this strong development also poses new problems, dependence on technology, the risk of information distortion, ethical journalism content being violated by imperfect algorithms and even unverified copying of content.
In that context, the Head of the Lao Central Propaganda Department said that press agencies need to improve the capacity to apply technology for reporters, while closely linking the responsibility of journalists with political guidelines, legal regulations, and professional ethics.
The press must proactively monitor and refute false information on social networks, maintain its role in guiding public opinion, and clarify true and false values in the chaotic flow of information.
Regarding the digital transformation trend, Mr. Khamphanh Pheuyavong recognized this as an objective necessity, reflecting the adaptation of the press to the public's new habits.
He pointed out the fact that today's society has changed the way it accesses information. Instead of reading newspapers or watching TV like before, people have switched to accessing information mainly through social networks, mobile phones and online platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, TikTok...

Therefore, the press cannot stand aside. Digital transformation must not only stop at technology, but also at content strategy, communication methods and especially the ability to debate, clarify and report accurate news to counter fake news and untrue news that are spreading rapidly on social networks.
Mr. Khamphanh Pheuyavong also emphasized the special role of the Vietnamese revolutionary press in the cause of protecting and building the Fatherland, saying that the revolutionary press is not only a means of propaganda, but also a fighting force.
Throughout history, since its inception, the Vietnamese revolutionary press has been the Party's sharp ideological weapon, accompanying the people in every step of the revolution. He recalled the words of President Ho Chi Minh : "Press cadres are also revolutionary soldiers. Pens and paper are their sharp weapons."
Talking about President Ho Chi Minh's journalism ideology, the Head of the Lao Central Propaganda Department said that it is a valuable guideline for revolutionary journalism today.
According to Uncle Ho, journalists must have a firm political stance, be loyal to the Party's ideals, be close to the people, understand social life, and constantly study to improve their political level, expertise, and professional ethics.
The press is not only a means of propaganda but also a force for organizing and mobilizing the masses, contributing to national unity in the cause of national construction and development.
Mr. Khamphanh Pheuyavong affirmed that in the new period, the press needs to continue to promote its glorious tradition, maintain its revolutionary nature, and proactively innovate, modernize, and quickly and deeply access people's digital lives.
Only then can the revolutionary press continue to fulfill its noble mission as a vanguard force on the ideological and cultural front in the cause of protecting and building the socialist Vietnam./.
