Thanh Nien Newspaper

Thanh Nien Newspaper is headquartered at 13A Van Minh Street, Guangzhou, China. At first, the newspaper was published once a week, with more than 100 copies printed on wax paper. The name of the newspaper "Thanh Nien" was written in Vietnamese and Chinese. The newspaper was 19cm x 13cm in size, with 2 pages per issue, sometimes 4 pages, with sections: Editorial, commentary, women's forum, criticism, news, poetry, questions and answers, reader responses, jobs... In the later period, due to difficult printing conditions, the next issue was sometimes 3 weeks, 5 weeks apart from the previous issue.

Leader Nguyen Ai Quoc was both the Editor-in-Chief and the content organizer. In addition to writing many articles for the newspaper, most of which were unsigned or under a pen name, he also drew critical and satirical cartoons. In addition, active collaborators included comrades Ho Tung Mau, Le Hong Son, Le Hong Phong, Truong Van Linh...

Thanh Nien Newspaper played an important role in propaganda, ideological preparation, theory and organization for the birth of communist groups in late 1929 and the establishment of the Communist Party of Vietnam in early 1930. The newspaper had articles that deeply aroused hatred for the invaders, propagandized, enlightened and encouraged the people to make revolution. Issue 63 (published on October 3, 1926) had the article "Kam Di Rao" reflecting the harsh rule of French colonialism. At the end of the article, the author clearly stated his point of view: "My fellow countrymen! Freedom is given to us by God. People who are not free would rather die. Wake up and break the cage that the French have locked us up in. My fellow countrymen! Are you willing to accept it like chickens or pigs? Only chickens and pigs accept being locked up forever. If you were a human, you would find a way to break out of the cage."

Thanh Nien newspaper was secretly sent back to the country by ship and circulated in the branches of the Vietnam Revolutionary Youth League, in the revolutionary bases of overseas Vietnamese in France, Thailand, China, etc. The newspaper had a profound influence on the political life of our people.

In 1985, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the first publication of Thanh Nien Newspaper, the Central Party Secretariat decided to make June 21 every year Vietnam Press Day. On June 21, 2000, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of Vietnam Press Day, at the proposal of the Vietnam Journalists Association , the Politburo of the Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam agreed to call Vietnam Press Day Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day.

People's Newspaper

In 1938, in the Popular Front movement, the People's Newspaper of the Indochinese Communist Party was born. At this time in France, the Popular Front movement with the French Communist Party as the core was developing strongly in the colonies, so France's policy towards the colonies changed. The Indochinese Communist Party took this opportunity to establish a number of press agencies to propagate the revolutionary line. The Party Central Committee, directly led by comrades Ha Huy Tap and Nguyen Van Cu, published the People's Newspaper, headquartered at 43 Hamelin Street (Saigon) with the editorial board consisting of comrades Tran Van Kiet, Le Van Kiet, Nguyen Van Kinh, Bui Van Thu, Hoang Van Thanh, Hoang Hoa Cuong, Nguyen Van Tran...

The first issue of Dan Chung Newspaper was published on July 22, 1938. The printed newspaper was distributed free of charge to the people of Saigon and neighboring areas. The first issues were not licensed, and it was not until a month later, from issue 15 (published on September 10, 1938), that the colonial government agreed to grant a license to Dan Chung Newspaper. The newspaper contained articles full of fighting spirit aimed at criticizing the ruling policies of the imperialists and colonialists; at the same time, it propagated the theories, guidelines, viewpoints, and policies of our Party, encouraged and organized the masses to fight for democracy and against the fascist war, encouraged the Indochinese Democratic Front, supported the French Popular Front, supported the Democratic Front in countries fighting against fascism, especially in Spain, China, supported the Soviet Union...

Dan Chung was a public newspaper and the third newspaper of our Party with the most issues before the August Revolution in 1945. It was also the newspaper of the Party before 1945 with the largest print run and the most readers at that time. The newspaper was honored to have leader Nguyen Ai Quoc send an article to publish in the first issue.

In 1988, the headquarters of Dan Chung Newspaper at 43 Hamelin Street - now Le Thi Hong Gam Street, Nguyen Thai Binh Ward (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City) was recognized as a National Historical Relic.

Vietnam Independent Newspaper

After 30 years of searching for a way to save the country, on January 28, 1941, Uncle Ho returned to Pac Bo (Truong Ha commune, Ha Quang district, Cao Bang province) to build a revolutionary base. From May 10 to 19, 1941, he organized the 8th Central Party Conference. The conference agreed on many major policies, and at the same time decided to publish a newspaper as a propaganda and agitation agency for the Viet Minh Front, named after the revolutionary goal of Vietnam Independence.

Uncle Ho directly directed, wrote, approved, drew illustrations, propaganda posters, and participated in printing. The first issue (101) was published on August 1, 1941 (currently, the Vietnam Revolutionary Museum still preserves the original copies of 156 issues). In extremely difficult newspaper production conditions, the newspaper vividly demonstrated the revolutionary line, belief in victory, and belief in the correctness of Marxism-Leninism. In the editorial published in the first issue (101), Uncle Ho wrote: “The West wants to make our people stupid, our people cowardly. Stupid, we must be cowardly. If we are stupid and cowardly, they will be easy to control, easy to bully, easy to exploit.” Number 109 (October 21, 1941), article "Russia - Germany war", Uncle Ho wrote: "Russia is a revolutionary country. Germany is a fascist country. If Germany wins, all of humanity will be enslaved. If Russia wins, then the world can hope for a glorious day... We can be sure that: Germany will definitely lose. Russia will definitely win"...

Issue 226 (August 20, 1945), the article “Liberation Time Has Arrived” had a passage that read: “The liberation day of 25 million compatriots has arrived! All compatriots! All those who love their country and their people! Quickly respond to the Viet Minh under the five-pointed yellow star, quickly rise up to seize power, and establish a provisional people's government…”. Issue 230 (October 10, 1945) published the exciting news: “The Golden Week everywhere achieved great results: Hanoi raised 2,549 taels of gold, 2 million 551 thousand dong, 9,200 tons of rice; Hai Phong: 626 taels of gold, 590 taels of silver; Nam Dinh: 252 taels of gold; Ha Tinh 163 taels of gold; Hue: 200 kilos of gold; Quang Tri 250 taels of gold. Other places continue to raise funds”... The Vietnam Independence Newspaper truly made great contributions to the process of national liberation.

In August 1956, the Viet Bac Autonomous Region was established, and the Viet Nam Doc Lap Newspaper became the mouthpiece of the Regional Party Committee. The newspaper ended its mission in its last issue 1737 (March 11, 1976).

Liberation Flag Newspaper/ Truth

The Liberation Flag Newspaper No. 1 was published on October 10, 1942, with General Secretary Truong Chinh in charge, who was also the main political writer of the newspaper. Unlike many previous revolutionary newspapers, the Liberation Flag Newspaper clearly stated on its mantle that it was “The Central Propaganda and Agitation Agency of the Indochinese Communist Party”. During the period of secret publication before the August Revolution of 1945, the Liberation Flag had 15 issues (No. 15 was published on July 17, 1945), lithographed on light blue paper measuring 27cm x 38cm, with a small print run, mainly circulated within the Party. During this period, the newspaper was published without a fixed term, its content focused on disseminating the Party’s major guidelines and policies; propagating and encouraging people to prepare for a general uprising. After the August Revolution was victorious, Liberation Flag was published publicly in Hanoi from issue 16 (September 12, 1945) to the last issue 33 (November 18, 1945). The newspaper's content during this period mainly affirmed the nation's independence after the founding of the country, condemned the French colonialists for deliberately causing aggression, and called on the people to be ready to fight against the invaders and protect the newly won independence...

After the Liberation Flag Newspaper stopped publishing, the Truth Newspaper was replaced, with its first issue published on December 5, 1945. Although it was the “Resistance Propaganda Agency of the Indochina Marxist Research Association”, it was essentially a Party newspaper, with General Secretary Truong Chinh as editor-in-chief. The Truth Newspaper was published twice a week, each issue had 4 pages, and some issues had only 2 pages, with paper size of 23cm x 37cm. Later, in addition to regular issues, the Truth Newspaper also had special issues for Tet and the anniversaries of the August Revolution, National Day September 2, International Labor Day May 1, etc.
