Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan said that this activity of Nhan Dan Newspaper was very effective, following the special and impressive activities of last year, which was to build the panorama supplement and the interactive exhibition of Dien Bien Phu Campaign of Nhan Dan Newspaper, which resonated and created a profound social effect. Speaking at the opening ceremony, comrade Le Quoc Minh, member of the Party Central Committee, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Education Commission, President of the Vietnam Journalists Association, said that 2025 will see many important events for the country: the 95th anniversary of the Party's founding (February 3, 1930 - February 3, 2025); the 135th anniversary of the birth of beloved Uncle Ho (May 19, 1890 - May 19, 2025); the 80th anniversary of the tradition of the Vietnam People's Public Security (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2025); the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025); 80th anniversary of the founding of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025).

That is the way for today’s generation to pay tribute to those who have spared no blood, bones, and youth to bring eternal peace to the nation.

One of the historical witnesses present at the launching ceremony, Colonel Nguyen Van Luc, Hero of the People's Armed Forces, commander of the Quyet Thang Squadron that raided Tan Son Nhat airport on April 28, 1975, recounted the historic air battles of him and his teammates at that time.

Colonel Nguyen Van Luc said: "The airstrike on April 28, 1975 was an opportunity for us to repay the Party and the people's gratitude, and to train ourselves to have combat skills. The attack on Tan Son Nhat Airport with 18 bombs that shook Saigon was a part, but the most important thing was to shake the enemy's will to defend Saigon, causing the enemy to quickly disintegrate, and we could attack faster."

Sharing about the special day of April 30, 1975, Corporal Lu Van Hoa, driving tank T54B number 843, which crashed into the side gate of the Independence Palace, confided: The moment tank 843 crashed into the side gate on the left, then tank 390 crashed into the main gate and tanks 390 and 803 entered the Independence Palace and the moment comrade Bui Quang Than planted the flag of the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam on the roof of the Independence Palace brought the soldiers extremely intense emotions.

“That was an extremely happy and proud moment because when the liberation flag was raised on the roof of the Independence Palace, it signaled the complete collapse of the Saigon puppet regime, the complete liberation of the South, and the reunion of the North and South. We jumped out of the motorbike and hugged each other, laughing with tears in our eyes. I thought, this was a lucky thing for us to have the opportunity to witness this historic moment of the nation. We thought that when the country was unified, we would soon be able to return to visit our homeland and families. But deep in our hearts, we all remembered the heroic martyrs, the comrades who fought side by side on the battlefield, who forever devoted their youth to independence and freedom, and the nation did not enjoy the happiness and joy of liberation. In that joy, there were sorrows, memories, and regrets,” he said.

Journalist Tran Mai Huong, former General Director of Vietnam News Agency, former war correspondent of Vietnam News Agency in the formation of Army Corps 2 present at Independence Palace at noon on April 30, 1975 shared that on this special occasion, many press agencies organized propaganda, but the way Nhan Dan Newspaper did it was very special, with its own color. “As a war journalist, I was present at many fierce fronts such as Quang Tri, and then went to the Cambodian battlefield. At that time, although I was very young, the memories during my work left many deep impressions on me, and gradually became the spiritual baggage for my journalism career,” journalist Tran Mai Huong shared.

Journalist Tran Mai Huong is also the author of the historical photo “Liberation Army tanks entering the Independence Palace - noon on April 30, 1975”. According to him, the tank soldiers in the photo I took, later, when the country was at peace, they returned to their simple lives, some grew vegetables, raised fish, some gardened, grew custard apples… But in the great war of the nation, they were extremely brave and optimistic soldiers. They were determined to complete the assigned tasks for the Fatherland, for national independence. They were extremely noble people.
