During a recent trip to Sa Pa ( Lao Cai province), a group of Filipino tourists said they had memorable experiences.
According to a member of the group, the group dined at a restaurant in Sa Pa. The meal included fish in tomato sauce, fried tofu, white rice, honey-fried chicken, stir-fried deer with onions and mushrooms, and fried eggs. Drinks included pineapple juice, mango smoothie, water, and soft drinks.

There were 5 members in the group so they decided to order a bowl of rice each. When the restaurant staff brought out a bowl of white rice, everyone was surprised to learn that the price was only about 66 pesos (30,000 VND).
"In Vietnam, a bowl of rice costs 66 pesos and can comfortably feed 5 people. A great price for a huge portion. If it were in the Philippines, this price would not be possible," a member of the group expressed surprise.
It is known that the total bill for the group's meal was more than 1.1 million VND. According to research, the price of rice in the Philippines is quite expensive compared to Vietnam.
According to information on some trading floors in the Philippines, the listed price of rice in this country has many different levels depending on the type. In which, Sako white rice in 5kg bags is priced at 450 pesos (about 200,000 VND). Sinandomeng rice in 2kg bags is listed at 125 pesos (nearly 60,000 VND).
With such expensive rice prices, 30,000 VND is usually only enough for one person. Therefore, when looking at the bill, the tourists in the Philippine group were surprised and amazed.
The guest group's post also received a lot of interaction. Among them, many Vietnamese accounts also left many humorous comments.
"White rice in Vietnam is not only cheap, but sometimes some restaurants even let customers have it for free. Foreign customers can rest assured when coming here to eat," said Anh Quan.
"Foreign visitors to a rice exporting country like Vietnam can rest assured that they will be able to eat delicious rice at reasonable prices. There is a pho restaurant in Hanoi where customers are also given a free bowl of rice," said user Binh Minh.
According to research, the restaurant where the Filipino group dined is a food business located in Sa Pa town, only about 200m from the church.
Talking to Dan Tri reporter, the restaurant owner said that about 80% of the guests coming here are foreigners, of which the number of guests coming from Southeast Asia such as the Philippines, Thailand, and Malaysia accounts for a high percentage.

"When looking at the bill for a bowl of white rice that cost only 30,000 VND, the Filipino group of guests were all surprised. They discussed it enthusiastically and expressed "disbelief" when they learned that in Vietnam, many restaurants offer free refills of rice," this person said.
The restaurant owner revealed that foreign guests usually do not eat too much rice. Therefore, the restaurant will base on the number of guests to serve reasonable portions, still making guests feel comfortable. For guests traveling in groups, they usually eat combo meals (combining many products in a meal) with prices ranging from 200,000 VND to 450,000 VND/person.
"For white rice, we use local rice to serve. Many diners who come here also like this type of rice," the restaurant owner revealed.
It is known that the restaurant has been open since 2007, mainly serving dishes with bold Vietnamese cuisine .
Depending on the group of guests from each country, the chef will make some adjustments to suit the taste. Some dishes that are especially popular with diners here are salmon, Sa Pa sturgeon prepared in salad, hot pot, grilled, fried...
According to data from the Vietnam National Tourism Administration, in the first 9 months of the year, 336,751 Filipino visitors came to Vietnam. In September alone, the number of visitors from this country reached 41,372.
The total number of Filipino visitors to Vietnam in 2024 increased by 73.6% compared to the previous year.
Da Nang city alone welcomed more than 50,000 Filipino tourists flying directly to Da Nang in 2024.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the strategic partnership between the Philippines and Vietnam (2015-2025) with many cooperative activities in the fields of culture, sports and tourism. This is also an opportunity to open up cooperation and development in tourism economy between the two potential markets.
