On June 26, according to news from the Thua Thien Hue Provincial Forest Protection Department, the unit's forces have just received a rare clouded monitor lizard, one of the rare wild animals listed in the Vietnam Red Book and the World Red Book.

This monitor lizard was accidentally seen and caught by a resident in Thuy Van ward, Hue city. He voluntarily handed over this wild animal to the forest rangers according to regulations.
The person who handed over this rare wild animal - the monitor lizard - was Mr. Nguyen Dinh Hieu (residing in Thuy Van ward, Hue city, Thua Thien Hue province).
At the time of receipt, this monitor lizard was in normal health.
Previously, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Hieu had caught a monitor lizard - this wild animal - when he discovered the animal "lost" in the middle of an urban area.
The scientific name of the clouded monitor is Varanus nebulosus. This is a rare forest animal belonging to group IB according to Decree No. 84/2021/ND-CP dated September 22, 2021 of the Government on amending and supplementing a number of articles of Decree 06/2019/ND-CP dated January 22, 2019 on the management of endangered and rare forest plants and animals and the implementation of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora.
After receiving the monitor lizard, the forestry agency is taking care of it and completing the dossier to establish public ownership of this wild animal to release it into the natural environment according to regulations.
