Unexpectedly met Nick Ut and reunited with "Napalm Girl" in Ho Chi Minh City

(NLDO) - On the afternoon of February 26, at the War Remnants Museum (District 3, Ho Chi Minh City), photographer Nick Ut met with Ms. Phan Thi Kim Phuc - the character in the painting "Napalm Girl". This was the second meeting after the first meeting in Trang Bang in 2022.

“This year marks the 52nd anniversary of the photo I took. Every time I look back at it, I feel sad because it shows the brutality of war,” said photographer Nick Ut.

“Meeting photographer Nick Ut again this time is also an opportunity for me to remind him that no matter how fierce and devastating the war is, people still strive to survive,” Ms. Kim Phuc emotionally shared.

A tourist expressed surprise when seeing the presence of Ms. Phan Thi Kim Phuc.

Every year, photographer Nick Ut returns to Vietnam a couple of times. On this occasion, he and Mrs. Phan Thi Kim Phuc and 160 American tourists visited Ho Chi Minh City, Nha Trang, Da Nang, Hoi An, Hue, Ha Long Bay and Hanoi .

Nick Ut, whose real name is Huynh Cong Ut, was born in 1951 and is a photojournalist for the American news agency Associated Press (AP). At the age of 20, Nick Ut was a war photographer for AP working on the battlefield in Vietnam.

“Napalm Girl”, a world- shaking photo of the Vietnam War taken by photographer Nick Ut in 1972, shows a little girl (Mrs. Kim Phuc) and other children crying as they run into the street under a napalm bomb in Trang Bang, Tay Ninh province.

This photo won Nick Ut the Pulitzer Prize. His photo was voted the most impressive news photo of all time by the New Statesman.
