Arrested the former Principal of Dong Nai University

On the morning of June 6, the Dong Nai Police Investigation Security Agency executed an arrest warrant for Tran Minh Hung (former Principal of Dong Nai University) and Phan Van Thanh (former Head of Finance and Planning Department of Dong Nai University) to investigate the crime of "Abusing position and power while performing official duties" occurring at Dong Nai University.

Mr. Tran Minh Hung heard the order of temporary detention.

The Security Investigation Agency also executed a search warrant on the residences and workplaces of the two suspects Tran Minh Hung and Phan Van Thanh. In addition, the security investigation force also executed a search warrant on the residences and workplaces of a number of related individuals who are currently lecturers and educational management staff of Dong Nai University.

This is a case under the supervision and direction of the Steering Committee for Anti-Corruption and Negativity of Dong Nai province. During the investigation, it was determined that the above-mentioned defendants had committed serious violations in their work to the extent that they must be prosecuted for criminal liability.

Previously, the Dong Nai Provincial Inspectorate conducted an inspection and pointed out many violations at Dong Nai University. In particular, the school under-declared and left out of the books the revenue for calculating corporate income tax in 2018 of VND 37 billion, leading to a reduction in the amount of tax payable to the budget of nearly VND 700 million. This shows signs of violating Article 200 of the Penal Code. Afterwards, the Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee transferred the case to the provincial police for investigation according to regulations.

Regarding the incident, previously, Mr. Tran Minh Hung was disciplined by the Standing Committee of Dong Nai Provincial Party Committee by being removed from all positions in the Party; Mr. Phan Van Thanh was disciplined by being expelled from the Party.
