Benfica stirs up controversy over Felix's statement

Joao Felix's statements about Benfica shook the Da Luz team internally, forcing the club's top brass to speak out.

Felix once wanted to return to his old team Benfica to revive his career.

Felix has just created a media earthquake in Portugal when he admitted that he "desired to return to Benfica for three consecutive summers", but his old club "never really took him seriously" in bringing him back.

In a recent interview, the Al Nassr striker said: “The truth is that I wanted to return to Benfica for the last three summers. I always said that to my agent. But Benfica never had any serious intention. I don’t know who it was.” Felix insisted that the problem was not money, because he “never focused on transfer fees or wages”.

The frank sharing immediately caused a fierce debate in the Benfica community. The club's president, the legendary Rui Costa, reacted quickly and regretfully. "I'm sorry that Joao said that. I feel sorry for him. If everything depended only on Benfica's will, he would have returned three years ago, not this summer," he replied.

Costa said he did not want to get involved in the controversy out of respect for Felix, but could not hide his disappointment when he said that his former student "was not completely honest". The words of the Benfica President also indirectly confirmed that the club had made many serious offers, but the deal did not succeed because of competition from European giants, and because of Felix's own decision.

The incident has divided Benfica fans. Some have criticized the board for “not being determined enough” to keep the Seixal academy graduate, while others believe Felix needs to reconsider whether he has done enough to return.

The Felix-Benfica story, which seemed to have calmed down after years apart, has suddenly exploded into the center of controversy in Lisbon.

The fierce fight resulted in 17 red cards in the Bolivian league. The second leg of the Copa Bolivia quarter-final between Real Oruro and Blooming on the evening of November 27 at the Jesus Bermudez stadium erupted in chaos after the match, when the two teams got into a brawl, forcing the police to intervene.
