Sharing about the upcoming operation of Bach Mai Hospital, Branch 2, Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Xuan Co, Director of Bach Mai Hospital, said that the unit has carefully prepared human resources and plans for the best operation.
"When put into operation, the quality of Bach Mai Hospital 2 will be the same as facility 1, or even better than facility 1. Because Bach Mai Hospital 2 is newly built, the equipment is synchronous and modern, and with the hospital's prepared human resources, the quality of medical examination and treatment will certainly be good," Associate Professor Co informed.
Is an extension of facility 1
According to Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Xuan Co, for a medical facility to be put into operation, new, modern, and synchronous equipment is necessary. But the most important thing is the medical staff here. The human factor is decisive.

Therefore, the Hospital has a very clear plan for the operation of Bach Mai Hospital, Branch 2. First, it is necessary to have the Hospital's leading doctors working there. "We will carry out the rotation of staff drastically. The Hospital has both a regime and an incentive policy, as well as a requirement," Associate Professor Co said.
Accordingly, each department of Bach Mai Hospital, branch 2, is an extension of branch 1. "The professor and head of department of branch 1 must be the head of department of branch 2, to be able to take care of the expertise there, and will proactively arrange and send doctors to examine appropriately," informed the Director of Bach Mai Hospital.
Associate Professor Co also said that in the past time, in preparation for the operation of Bach Mai Hospital, branch 2, the Hospital has been proactively training and recruiting human resources.
Last year, Bach Mai Hospital recruited hundreds of excellent interns who graduated from Hanoi Medical University. They are working at Bach Mai Hospital and are still being trained. When Bach Mai Hospital 2 comes into operation, this will be an important resource, along with professors and leading experts with experience performing rotations of examinations at this facility.
Regarding the nursing staff, Associate Professor Co said that Bach Mai Hospital is fully proactive thanks to training at Bach Mai College. Currently, there are 300 nurses who have graduated and will continue to receive specialized training in 6-9 month courses. Upon graduation, their skills will be solid and they will be a quality source of human resources for the second facility.
Other human resources in the logistics and hospital sectors have also been fully prepared. In addition, many departments will be recruited locally to create jobs for Ha Nam people.
Can examine 5,000-7,000 patients per day, reducing the load on facility 1
According to Associate Professor Co, Bach Mai Hospital, as a final-line hospital, is always overloaded.
Bach Mai Hospital's leaders said that the hospital's planned number of beds is 3,600, but there are always 4,000-4,500 inpatients and 7,000-8,000 outpatients every day.

"In this campus, no matter what we do, it's still overloaded," the Director of Bach Mai Hospital shared.
Therefore, when Bach Mai Hospital 2 comes into operation, with 1,000 beds, the scale can examine up to 5,000-7,000 patients/day without worrying about overload, it will contribute to reducing the load on facility 1.
According to Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Xuan Co, Bach Mai Hospital 2 coming into operation is an opportunity for patients, an opportunity for the hospital (Photo: Hong Hai).
According to Associate Professor Co, Bach Mai Hospital, Branch 2, is located in a prime location, at a traffic intersection, connecting the provinces of Ha Tinh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Nam, Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Hung Yen, etc. When opened, it will create favorable conditions for patients to come for examination.
"The General Secretary has directed, the Prime Minister has directed, the Ministry of Health is determined, the Hospital is determined, when Bach Mai Hospital 2 is put into operation, it is an opportunity for patients, an opportunity for the hospital," Associate Professor Co said.
However, this expert said that it will not be possible to put 1,000 hospital beds into operation at the same time, but will open in stages. Urgent areas will be deployed first, so that the hospital can prepare thoroughly for operations, ensuring that when 1,000 beds are actually set up, medical examination and treatment will be carried out smoothly.
When will it be operational?
On the afternoon of March 31, the Government Inspectorate announced Conclusion No. 528 on the inspection of the investment project to build a new facility 2 of Bach Mai Hospital and the investment project to build a new facility 2 of Viet Duc Hospital in Ha Nam province.
Previously, at the end of 2014, the second facility of Bach Mai and Viet Duc Hospitals in Phu Ly City (Ha Nam) began construction and was expected to be the two largest modern hospitals ever built. This is also the first time our country has a hospital built and operated according to international standards.
Bach Mai Hospital's second facility project has a scale of 1,000 inpatient beds and serves about 5,000 medical examinations per day, with a total construction floor area of over 120,000 m2, built including 1 basement and 6 floors.
On October 21, 2018, the examination areas of both facilities were officially inaugurated.
However, after that, only the examination area of Bach Mai Hospital was put into use for a period of time from March 2019 to March 2020, then announced to temporarily stop operating. This area was once requisitioned as a centralized quarantine area to prevent Covid-19.
Meanwhile, Viet Duc Hospital, branch 2, only stopped at the ribbon cutting ceremony and has never received any patients.
In 2019, the Ministry of Health requested to extend the project implementation period. The project progress has been adjusted to December 31, 2020.
However, up to now, both hospitals have not been able to be put into operation. Many items have not been completed. Most of the medical equipment has not been purchased or installed. In particular, many auxiliary areas are degraded, some areas have peeling walls covered with moss, the yard and garden are overgrown with weeds, becoming wild.

In 2022, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the working delegation visited the site, inspected, urged, and removed difficulties and obstacles for these projects.
The Prime Minister also emphasized that the investment policy for 5 central hospitals, 3 of which are invested by local authorities, has been completed, while 2 hospitals invested by the Ministry are still unfinished. The investment in the two hospitals is currently behind schedule for many years and has exceeded the budget.
At a meeting held at the Ministry of Health at the end of 2024, answering a question from Dan Tri reporter about the two billion-dollar hospitals Bach Mai Hospital and Viet Duc Hospital, Facility 2, being abandoned, when will they be operational? Deputy Minister of Health Le Duc Luan said that over the past year, the Ministry of Health has coordinated with ministries and branches to report to the Prime Minister to propose mechanisms and solutions to handle difficulties and problems in the investment project to build these two hospitals.
According to Deputy Minister Luan, difficulties and problems have occurred in these two projects and the two projects have been suspended since 2020. Currently, the Viet Duc Hospital project has resumed construction.
The Deputy Minister of Health said that in terms of construction, the second facility of Bach Mai Hospital is 97% complete, with 3% remaining, and the second facility of Viet Duc Hospital is 85% complete, with only 15% remaining. According to the Deputy Minister, the construction within 6 months (as previously requested by the Prime Minister) is not difficult.
Regarding medical equipment approved from 2014-2015, we will review to compare with the implementation and organize the procurement of medical equipment, each project costs nearly 1,000 billion VND. The goal is that if the difficulties and obstacles are accepted by the competent authorities, we will complete the construction in 2025," said the Deputy Minister.
At the end of February, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long visited and inspected the construction project of the Viet Duc Friendship Hospital's Facility 2 and the Bach Mai Hospital's Facility 2 in Ha Nam province.
The Deputy Prime Minister requested the Ministry of Health, investors, contractors and related units to focus as soon as possible to shorten the completion time to put Bach Mai and Viet Duc hospitals, branch 2, into operation before November 30.
The leader of Viet Duc Hospital said that the hospital has also prepared human and material resources so that when the second facility is assigned, the hospital will start operating and put it into the best operation, serving the medical examination and treatment of the people.
