In the campus of Can Tho Central General Hospital, gentle fountains spraying between green grass and neatly trimmed trees create a beautiful landscape that helps patients and relatives feel at home.
To maintain this appearance, every day the medical staff spends time taking care of each potted plant and wiping each leaf in the bright white corridors of the departments. Thanks to these seemingly small habits, in 2024, through self-assessment, the hospital was ranked Good in the "green - clean - beautiful" criteria.

The green color of plants at the workplace of medical staff appears everywhere.
This is the result of a strict operating process, applying environmental standards to every professional process, from the wastewater treatment system to the way waste is classified in the hospital rooms.
In the courtyard, trees are arranged in uniform patches, creating natural wind and reducing heat for the entire examination and emergency area. Inside, each department has small green patches: the duty desk has a potted plant, the corner of the corridor has a flower shelf, each patient room is arranged with suitable ornamental plants.
The nurses take care of these potted plants every day, helping to reduce the stress in the treatment area and anxiety for the patients. Not only green, a "clean" environment is also a top priority for the hospital.
The clean water system operates 24/7, meeting all medical needs. The restrooms are checked on a shift basis, with a monitoring board posted right in front of the door. Each floor, wall, and equipment has its own sanitation standards, and the staff keeps a full cleaning log.
The highlight of the entire assessment is medical waste management. The hospital is operating the NIHOPHAWA AT 350 autoclave, which treats infectious waste with saturated steam at 121°C for 50 minutes. This system is periodically tested for thermal and microbiological indicators, ensuring that the treated waste meets QCVN 55:2013/BTNMT standards before being transferred for recycling.

The green areas are carefully tended so that every patient coming to the hospital feels relaxed.
The application of non-combustion technology helps reduce the risk of releasing toxic emissions into the environment. Crowded areas such as corridors and waiting rooms are arranged with small green trees and neat chairs, with electronic screens providing information. The parking area is divided into cells, has a roof and a night lighting system, creating safety and convenience for patients.
However, the hospital still faces pressure from the large number of patients, with an average of nearly 2,500 patients coming for examination every day, requiring constant maintenance of the landscape and hygiene of the patient rooms.
The hospital has developed a roadmap to increase the capacity of its wastewater treatment system and is implementing a circular economy model for medical plastic waste. Once infectious plastic waste is sterilized using autoclave technology, it will be sorted for recycling, reducing the amount of waste that must be buried or burned.
From the shady campus to the leaves gently wiped by staff, from clean patient rooms to properly operated waste treatment equipment, Can Tho Central General Hospital is proving that a safe medical environment is not only built by technology but also by the meticulousness and responsibility of each individual.
