On the afternoon of May 5, at the scientific and technical conference on "Optimizing emergency procedures and stroke treatment, the role of quality management in stroke units", Can Tho Central General Hospital was awarded the Platinum standard certificate in emergency and stroke treatment by the World Stroke Organization (WSO).
Platinum certification is a prestigious certification for stroke centers and units that meet a series of strict and rigorous standards including the ability to train professional staff, equipment for diagnosis, intervention, treatment of acute stroke, ability to care for stroke patients, etc.
The team is performing emergency stroke treatment at Can Tho Central General Hospital.
To obtain this certification, the hospital must organize an emergency and stroke treatment system that meets the strict criteria set by the WSO. In particular, the two most important and also the most difficult criteria to achieve are that the rate of stroke patients receiving recanalization treatment out of the total number of ischemic stroke patients coming to the hospital must reach over 15% and the rate of patients whose time from admission to thrombolysis or mechanical thrombectomy must be less than 60 minutes must reach over 75%.
Representing WSO, Associate Professor, Doctor, Doctor Nguyen Huy Thang, Vice President of Vietnam Stroke Association, Head of Cerebrovascular Disease Department, People's Hospital 115, said: Can Tho Central General Hospital receiving Platinum certification in stroke treatment is meaningful not only for the hospital but also for the people of the Mekong Delta.
Associate Professor, Doctor, Doctor Nguyen Huy Thang (right cover) presents the Platinum certificate of the World Stroke Association to the leaders of Can Tho Central General Hospital.
"In the Mekong Delta, people rely heavily on Can Tho Central General Hospital, especially poor and disadvantaged patients. Not to mention, even with a highway, transferring stroke patients to Ho Chi Minh City cannot be as timely and effective as treatment in Can Tho," said Dr. Thang.
According to Can Tho Central General Hospital, the hospital is currently applying stroke patient care procedures according to the standards of the European Stroke Association to help ensure consistency in the treatment process and increase the chances of successful treatment for patients. Thanks to this, the rate of acute ischemic stroke patients receiving timely emergency care and revascularization treatment has increased over the years.
Dr. Pham Thanh Phong, Deputy Director of Can Tho Central General Hospital, said that the hospital is expanding the Stroke Department and will establish a Stroke Center in the near future to meet the increasing treatment needs of people in the Mekong Delta.
