Dog ticks parasitize, nest and reproduce in baby boy's ear canal

A 9-year-old boy had itchy, bleeding ears. When he went to Can Tho Children's Hospital for a check-up, the doctor discovered parasitic dog mites nesting and reproducing in his ear canal.

On May 14, news from Can Tho Children's Hospital said that the hospital's doctors had just received a child patient infected with dog ticks.

Previously, a 9-year-old boy came to the doctor with symptoms of itchy and bleeding ears. Through examination, the doctor discovered that dog mites had parasitized, nested and reproduced in the boy's ear canal.

After being treated by doctors, the boy's health is now stable.

According to a doctor at Can Tho Children's Hospital, when ticks crawl into the ear and reproduce, children may experience symptoms of continuous ear itching, often scratching or picking at their ears; ear pain, a feeling of discomfort, especially at night; ear discharge, possibly mixed with blood or pus; temporary hearing loss (due to ticks or eggs, secretions blocking the ear canal); in some cases, strange noises may be heard in the ear (if the ticks are still alive and moving).

To avoid getting ticks and fleas in the ear canal like the boy mentioned above, doctors recommend removing ticks and fleas from pets regularly; not letting pets sleep in the same bed or have close contact with children; cleaning ears, bathing children regularly, paying attention to the ear area...
