Dr. Le Quang Huy - Head of the Department of Orthopedic Trauma Surgery - Cranial Neurology, Hong Ngoc - Phuc Truong Minh General Hospital said that with the current trend of minimally invasive surgery, the C-arm machine is considered a powerful assistant in orthopedic trauma surgery, helping to accurately locate the access route, anatomical landmarks, and instrument placement direction in minimally invasive surgeries related to the spine, arthroscopy, or complex bone fusion.

However, the application and exploitation still have many limitations, especially when each surgery requires a different approach and image manipulation. Therefore, Hong Ngoc General Hospital organized a workshop on "Application of C-arm in orthopedic trauma surgery practice" to create opportunities for doctors to exchange, share practical experiences and update new techniques in the treatment of musculoskeletal diseases.

The program took place on August 9 at Hong Ngoc General Hospital - Phuc Truong Minh.

The workshop, with the participation of world- renowned technology company Siemens Healthineers, along with a team of leading orthopedic trauma experts from Austria, Japan, Taiwan (China) and Vietnam, shared experiences through 7 professional reports and 2 live surgeries. The event promises to bring a multi-dimensional perspective on the application of modern C-arm equipment, contributing to optimizing the effectiveness of orthopedic trauma surgery.

The conference brings together leading orthopedic trauma experts from Europe and Asia.

Opening the program, Prof. Dr. Dietmar Krappinger - Deputy Director of the Level 1 Trauma Center, Innsbruck Medical University, Austria - will share minimally invasive acetabular fracture treatment techniques, emphasizing the role of imaging diagnosis in the planning and navigation of surgery, especially in complex injuries with the topic "Acetabular Fractures: Imaging Diagnosis and Surgery Under Transilluminated Guidance for Complex Cases".

Next, Prof. Dr. Hiranaka Takafumi - Director of the Joint Surgery Center, Takatsuki General Hospital, Japan shared his experience in adjusting the shooting angle and using a light-increasing screen to optimize screw placement through the topic "Optimizing images in combined surgery for proximal femoral fractures".

In addition, Associate Professor, Dr. Meng-Huang Wu - Chairman of the Department of Orthopedics, Taipei Medical University Hospital, Taiwan (China) introduced the solution "Application of artificial intelligence in endoscopic spine surgery: Improving accuracy and treatment results", helping to improve accuracy in determining the location of lesions and navigating instruments, limiting the impact on soft tissue, nerves and blood vessels around the endoscopic area.

With the topic: "Tragic triad of the elbow joint: Priority is given to fixation of the coracoid process through the anterior surgical approach", Dr. Ming-Fai Cheng - Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology, Taipei Veterans General Hospital, Taiwan (China) clarified the indications, surgical approach and intervention sequence for injuries to the coracoid process, radial head, and lateral ligament of the elbow.

One of the important contents of the workshop was the report of Dr. Le Quang Huy - Head of the Department of Orthopedic Trauma Surgery - Cranial Neurology, Hong Ngoc - Phuc Truong Minh General Hospital with the topic "How to achieve the correct position of the acetabular component in total hip replacement", presenting the experience of controlling the tilt angle and the anterior tilt angle under the guidance of the fluoroscopy screen. Thereby reducing the risk of dislocation or avoiding re-surgery after joint replacement.

Closing the series of reports are 2 experience sharing articles on the topic of "Direct Anterior Hip Replacement (DAA) and Bikini" by Dr. Alexander Ko - Department of Orthopedics, Taipei Medical University Hospital, Taiwan (China) and "Surgical treatment strategy for proximal humerus fractures" by Dr. Phan Ba Hai - Deputy Head of Department of Upper Limb Surgery and Sports Medicine, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital.

Not only stopping at professional reports, Hong Ngoc General Hospital also pioneered the application of new generation 3D C-arm technology through 2 surgical cases reported directly from the operating room performed by Vietnamese experts with the advice of international experts. Notably, there was a spinal surgery with the technique "Percutaneous spinal pedicle screwing using 3D C-arm" performed by Associate Professor, Dr. Ha Kim Trung - Deputy Medical Director, Hong Ngoc General Hospital - Phuc Truong Minh with the advice of Professor, Dr. Dietmar Krappinger.

“The advent of 3D C-arm technology with integrated AI features - automatically detecting and segmenting the lesion location by count and color, helps surgeons place screws, splints or interventional instruments in the correct position with just one operation. In particular, with the automatic X-ray dose optimization mode, it helps to minimize ionizing radiation, ensuring safety for patients and the surgical team. Hong Ngoc General Hospital has fully invested in infrastructure, human resources and processes to effectively use 3D C-arm technology, aiming to standardize orthopedic trauma surgery according to international standards,” Associate Professor Trung emphasized.
