Suddenly fired, former coach of Thailand national team has a new job right in… Thailand

Not long after suddenly receiving a dismissal notice from the Football Association of Thailand (FAT), Japanese coach Masatada Ishii has found a new job in the land of golden temples.

The decision to fire Mr. Masatada Ishii was announced by FAT on the afternoon of October 21. Since taking office (December 2024), the Japanese coach has only worked with the Thai team for about 10 months. This is a surprising move by FAT leaders, especially when coach Masatada Ishii has just helped the "war elephants" have 2 important victories against Taiwan, thereby rekindling hope of participating in the 2027 Asian Cup.

And when October had not yet ended, everything was back to normal. The Thai team had a new coach, the current FAT Technical Director - Anthony Hudson. Meanwhile, Mr. Masatada Ishii also accepted a new job, in Thailand.

Specifically, Mr. Ishii will sit in the "hot seat" of BG Pathum United Club (currently playing in the Thai League). On October 30, the BG Pathum United Club's homepage officially announced the appointment of the Japanese coach.

The Thai club introduced the new captain: "Coach Ishii brings with him a wealth of coaching experience in the J-League, having led the Kashima Antlers and Omiya Ardija teams and achieved impressive results, including championships. Notably, Mr. Ishii led Kashima Antlers to the runner-up position in the 2016 FIFA Club World Cup, only to lose to Real Madrid in the final.

In 2019, Ishii began his coaching career in Thailand with Samut Prakan FC, helping the team finish 6th in the Thai League in his first season. In the second leg of the 2021-2022 season, he was appointed as head coach of Buriram United, leading the team to win 2 Thai League titles, 2 FA Cups (Chang FA Cup) and 2 consecutive League Cups in the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 seasons.

In 2023, Masatada Ishii took over as head coach of the Thai national team, leading the team to the round of 16 of the 2023 Asian Cup in Qatar. After that, he continued to join the team to participate in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in Asia and the 2024 AFF Cup. Currently, Mr. Masatada Ishii has officially joined BG Pathum United as the new head coach, leading the team to conquer big goals in the upcoming season.
