Established on October 26, 2010, the school is located in Nghi An commune, Vinh city. 90% of the students are ethnic minorities in Nghe An; the remaining 10% of the students are Kinh people whose parents or guardians have resided for 36 months or more in extremely disadvantaged communes and villages.
The school's students come from 12 districts and towns of the province, including: Ky Son, Tuong Duong, Con Cuong, Anh Son, Que Phong, Quy Chau, Quy Hop, Nghia Dan, Thanh Chuong, Tan Ky, Quynh Luu and Thai Hoa town.
After 13 years of construction and development, the school's facilities, development scale and education quality have been constantly improved.
The whole school has 76 staff, teachers and employees, including 44 teachers, 38/44 with Master's degree, 28/44 with provincial-level excellent teachers.
The school has an area of nearly 50,000 m2, with airy campus, green, clean and beautiful landscape; has enough classrooms and offices for staff, teachers and employees; has enough equipment to serve educational activities.
Nghe An Ethnic Boarding High School No. 2 achieved National Standard School Level 1 in 2020. The school was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Ministry of Education and Training for the 2020-2021 school year; achieved the title of Excellent School in the system of high schools in the whole province. The Party cell is clean and strong.
In the 2021-2022 school year, the school had 1 teacher awarded a Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister; in the 2022-2023 school year, 1 administrator awarded a Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister.

In particular, in the High School Graduation Exam for the 2022-2023 school year, the average score of the whole school continued to rank 2nd in the province, in which the subjects: Literature, History, Geography ranked 1st in the province, Physics ranked 2nd in the province; 100% of students passed the graduation exam, 1 student was the valedictorian of group C in the province, 1 student was in the top 5 students with the highest score in the Natural Science Group exam in the province; 12 students were commended and rewarded by the Provincial People's Committee.

In the 2023-2024 school year, Nghe An Ethnic Boarding High School No. 2 has 630 students, including 210 grade 10 students.
After performing the flag-raising ceremony and singing the National Anthem, Ms. Dau Thi Mai - Vice Principal read the President's letter to the Education sector on the occasion of the opening of the 2023-2024 school year; then Principal Ho Quoc Viet presented the opening speech of the new school year.
Attending and sharing joy with teachers and students of the school, Nghe An Provincial Party Secretary Thai Thanh Quy beat the drum to open the school year, presented flowers and gifts to the school and gave 50 gifts, each worth 2 million VND, to 50 poor students with good academic achievements.
Right after the short and meaningful Opening Ceremony, Nghe An High School for Ethnic Minorities No. 2 organized a festival with unique games of ethnic minorities in Western Nghe An with the enthusiastic participation of students and teachers.
In the 2023-2024 school year, Nghe An has 918,195 students studying at 1,530 schools (1,448 public schools). Of which, there are 217,571 preschool students studying at 542 schools (483 public schools); 346,774 primary school students studying at 481 schools (480 public); 231,441 secondary school students studying at 396 schools (392 public schools), 110,943 high school students studying at 90 schools (72 public schools) and 11,466 students at 21 continuing education centers.
