Binh Hoa Nam - The land revived from pain

According to local people, Lo Duong canal was originally called Lo Moi canal. When people gathered to live along both banks of the canal and developed sugar factories, the canal was named Lo Duong canal.

On that fateful morning in early 1947, the French colonialists mobilized brutal forces, swept through and brutally massacred 64 innocent people, most of them elderly people, children and pregnant women. Blood poured into the canal, dyeing the sky red.

That pain is deeply engraved in the hearts of the people of Binh Hoa Nam, becoming a part of history, reminding them of the enemy’s crimes and the nation’s indomitable spirit. Overcoming the loss and pain, the people of Binh Hoa Nam stood up strongly, joining hands to rebuild their homeland. With the consensus of the local government and people, Binh Hoa Nam has risen to become a new rural commune, aiming towards the goal of an advanced new rural area.

Coming to Binh Hoa Nam today, the new flat roads along the lemon and pennywort fields show that the muddy, poor countryside of the past is now only a memory.

With the guidance of local authorities, farmers began to focus on concentrated commodity production with crops and livestock suitable to the advantages of each region. The conversion from inefficient rice production to growing crops with high economic efficiency such as lemon, pennywort, papaya, etc. was carried out quite simultaneously.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tham - a farmer in Hamlet 3, Binh Hoa Nam Commune, said that thanks to switching from rice to lemon, his family's economy is better, allowing him to take good care of his children until they grow up.

Mr. Tham said: “In the past, my family grew rice, but when we realized that lemon trees were more economically efficient, we switched to growing lemons. With a price of about 10,000 VND/kg, we can have double the profit compared to rice, and the care is also easier than rice.”

Thanks to the conversion from rice to lemon, the family economy of Mr. Nguyen Van Tham (Hamlet 3, Binh Hoa Nam Commune, Duc Hue District) has improved.

According to Vice Chairman of Binh Hoa Nam Commune People's Committee - Nguyen Xuan Du, thanks to the change in crop structure and the construction of specialized production areas, it has contributed to gradually stabilizing the economy and people's lives, increasing income.

By the end of 2024, the commune had 1.41% poor households and 2.31% near-poor households. According to the People's Committee of Binh Hoa Nam commune, in 2024 alone, people in the commune contributed cash, land and assets attached to land worth about 2 billion VND to carry out projects in the area. Thanks to that, the infrastructure has gradually developed, meeting the production and living requirements of rural residents.

100% of main roads are expanded and paved, 11/13 hamlet and inter-hamlet roads are paved and concreted, of which 7 roads have lighting, trees, and trash bins or are arranged with reasonable garbage collection points. In addition, 100% of alleys are paved, ensuring cleanliness and convenient travel.

Currently, the commune has 8 centralized water supply works, the rate of households using clean water is 83.4%. The commune health station headquarters was invested in construction in 2015 with an area of 1,500m2 to ensure the service of initial medical examination and treatment for people, disease prevention and control, vaccination, and vitamin administration.

The painful past has gone far away, the government and people of Binh Hoa Nam today have joined hands to paint a beautiful picture of their homeland.

The memorial stele of the massacre of the past has now become a place for each citizen to remember the losses and sacrifices of the past, thereby educating the tradition for today's generation./.
