On the morning of May 22, domestic gold prices continued to increase. Gold bars at Saigon Jewelry Company - SJC were bought at VND119.3 million and sold at VND121.3 million, an increase of VND800,000 for buying and VND300,000 for selling. The difference between the buying and selling prices of SJC gold bars decreased to VND2 million/tael instead of VND2.5 million yesterday.
The price of 4-number 9 gold rings at SJC increased by 500,000 VND, buying at 112.5 million VND and selling at 115.5 million VND. Phu Nhuan Jewelry Company (PNJ) bought at 112 million VND and selling at 115 million VND; Bao Tin Minh Chau bought 4-number 9 gold rings at 114.5 million VND and selling at 117.5 million VND... The difference between buying and selling gold rings at the companies remained at 3 million VND/tael. This caused gold ring buyers to immediately lose 3 million VND, higher than buying SJC gold bars.
Gold price continues to increase on the morning of May 22
The world gold price jumped to $3,326/ounce, nearly $39 higher than yesterday. Investors increased their gold purchases as Wall Street stocks fell and US government bond yields rose. According to a recent Reuters poll, the US economic outlook remains weak despite a temporary easing of the US-China trade war.
On May 14, US Federal Reserve Vice Chairman Philip Jefferson said he had “lowered expectations for economic growth this year” after the tariffs were imposed, and predicted that if the tariffs remain in place, prices will continue to rise. The long-term impact of the tariff-induced price shock depends not only on trade policies, but also deeply on businesses’ confidence in consumers’ resilience...
Some analysts believe that the US President's handling of the trade war could still cast a shadow over the entire economy for the rest of 2025. This will cause gold prices to continue to rise.../.
